I'd love the translation fail plot. Sinric would do okay, given how many languages he speaks, if all at dark age dialects. Jay speaks a handful of modern languages, enough to get by but Bodhi would be lost. He only speaks Basic and Ryl, at least he'd be able to chat to Hera...
These are both great ideas. There was an amazing memory loss plot when I first started and it brought about so much great stuff. Also yes, please on the translation, language is fascinating and has so many ways to play with it.
I love a good plot when people have to band together against some epic foe. Slenderman was an amazing one, as was Kingdom Hospital.
And then of course there was the Doomsday Clock thing, and the Barpocalypse. Milliways hasn't been hit by an epic 'The End is Nigh!' event in awhile.
The place seems overdue for one. >.>
I am also a fan of crackplots. Puppets was a favorite, as was the one with all the animals. Not necessarily suggesting bringing these ones back, but something in the vein.
Maybe everyone gets miniaturized (someone have a shrink-ray that can go awry?).
Or, ooh! How about a Jumanji outbreak? Some group happens across the game board and they unwittingly unleash a jungle into the bar. Lions in the bedrooms, gorillas behind the counter, and a crocodile takes up residence in a bathroom stall.
Well, I'm always up for an 'End of the World' plot.
Just as a thought, since Milliways is built into an asteroid, it's got to have some sort of tech, no matter how handwavy, to make sure it doesn't slip into the abyss. What if that failed, and the patrons had to head down into the bowels of the bar to fix it?
I was rereading all the old Band Candy threads the other day - those were a lot of fun, and something similar would be great to try again! Either Band Candy-like where the adults think they're teens, or the de-aging plot where teenaged versions of adult characters (with only teen-them's teenaged memories) are around for a while.
Or there's always the body-switching curry.... >_>
Similarly there was the high school AU plot that was suggested a while ago, where participating pups were all students or faculty in the same (presumably intergalactic) high school.
Posting another comment, but what if the bar-wide immunity failed, and everyone ended up with space chicken pox, or a cold of doom, or some other illness? It's sort of like IMDb flu without the IMDB, so I don't know how interested people would be, but a week of illness could be fun, if done right!
I really like this, especially because Sahaal's a Space Marine, which means he's practically immune to everything normally. Is it bad I really want to find something that would put even him out of action?
Waaaaaay (waaaaaay)back when there was a plot where someone from 21st century Earth came in with actual chicken pox and someone got infected and took it back to their world where people had no vaccines or natural immunity, and there was plot to help the people there.
I've been looking back through the archives, and I'd really like to another Bar-wide teamup against the forces of evil like the one against the Combine of Half-Life 2 back in 2008.
Stupid, stupid plot idea: all instances of something normally taken for granted (nothing vital to anyone's survival) have abruptly disappeared from the bar and everyone has to deal with it. Examples:
light sound wheat and wheat byproducts pants the floor (slightly less abruptly for obvious reasons)
I joined just after a Silent Hill plot, and have always regretted missing that one. Would anybody be interested in resurrecting it?
I know something like SH is not for everyone, but we could have people's doors occasionally open on a Silent Hill-esque bar (rather than the 'normal' one), so anyone who doesn't want to play it doesn't have to.
I've occasionally pondered reviving the Silent Hill plot in the form of a Silent Hill 2/Silent Hill 4 fusion dealio (since the first one was v. much a Silent Hill 1 plot).
A lot of it would come down to how to implement it without turning the bar into a horror game for a week -- either by having, like, pups who volunteer for it end up visiting it once or several times while they sleep, or having it just be a one and done deal where everyone who volunteers gets tossed in there all at once, but then it's over and wrapped up in a single night of game-time.
