Plotty plots?

A little while ago we were shooting around comm-wide plot ideas and a couple came up that I'd be game to run. I like both and now I can't pick. Which would y'all prefer?

A kid plot (characters show up as their kid selves), or
A translation malfunction plot (Bar's translation magic fails)?


Also, I know we've got one Texas person here, and if we have any more: stay safe and be well!

Always wondered about the bar's lack of a language barrier.

Not so keen on a kid plot - players bring in kid versions all the time.

It's a Hitchhiker's thing - the Bar has a babelfish filter. :)

I love the translation one, the kid thing as Alex said tends to happen anyway. I still like the idea but I think the language one could lead to some great stuff.

I'd quite like to see a translation plot, to be honest.

I'm just not too sure how we could represent all of the different, and often alien, languages.

Well, the easiest way would be to have everybody's dialogue rendered in English (since that's a language we all read, and they're going to be perfectly intelligible to themselves), with a bracketed note indicating what language they're actually speaking -- and then whoever they're talking to can only understand them if they know that language. Players can follow everything; characters can't.

My vote would be translation, for selfish reasons - I already play a younger version of Jim, and have had him in as a 10 year old before. Plus, there are lots of other kid versions of pups.

I approve of either of these :) but as above yes we have definitely done kids and teens before.

It appears translation plot has it, which I think will be fun, but as a suggestion for the future or whatever, what instead of people coming in as their younger selves, they become their younger selves?

Grown-up person's mind in their kid-self's body. I don't recall that having been done before.

Both of those sound like a blast to me, but I do occasionally bring in kid!Sariel anyway, and I am forever squeeful over translation oopses and languages all over the place, so I'll throw a vote in for the second one. Both, though. :)

Adding a second comment, a fun thing for the kids is doing a post where its just kids. Bethan's set up a few of those and they're always fun like around the treehouse or something like that.

Translation error could be fun, though it will be interesting to try and replicate Basic. Like do I try and make gifs of Aurebech?
