Hello, everyone, as I prepare to leave DragonCon!
We've talked before here about what we bring to our characters, but we learn from working with our characters as well as bringing out experience to them.
It doesn't have to be anything deep or life-changing. ^_~ Could be just a new desire to cosplay, just for that one image, or a willingness to try a new pastry that is now a favorite, or a CD in your collection you never would have bought otherwise. But: What have you taken back to your life from your characters?

I've always wanted to learn to sword fight and fence, but with Ahsoka on board, I've had the urge more than ever. Now if I just had the time.
Sam has definitely taught me that you can be strong and show empathy. You can also show empathy and not put up with BS.
Sabine is really making me want to start drawing again.

...I also tend to be rather pointedly polite to any cats I meet.

I once took an online course on the Viking sagas just so I could understand them in order to play Floki better.
The only thing Pam has contributed to my life is that bergdorfgoodman.com is in my browser history.
Cassidy is trash and a terrible influence all around, but I'm cosplaying him at NYCC anyway, so I'm looking forward to that. It'll be my first ever cosplay at a big comic con, too.

Will Scarlett started my interest in the medieval world and is the reason historical fiction is one of my favorite genres. Thanks to him, I've researched food, clothing and so many things about history. Also I think I'm a little bravery thanks to him.
Cassian has pulled me into the lovely world of Star Wars and all its depth along with making me curious about flying, Mexico-that's Diego Luna's fault, along with getting into the history of fighting people like the Empire. Also I don't think since maybe Lord of the Rings have I acquired fandom toys so quickly. Thanks to him, I watched an air race on television and loved it.
I was curious about horses and the American West long before playing William, but playing him renewed my interest and sent me down new pathways about dime novels and the Civil War and rodeos.
Charles is an odd mixture for me because my father's a psychiatrist so one reason I wanted to play him was recognizing how he deals with people. Thanks to him, I've done more research into genetics and had conversations with my father about his training during the 50s and 60s.
Moist has led me to stories about conmen and forgers.
Thanks to Sameth with his love of making things, I've discovered wonderful art mainly steampunk as well as reading about engineers. I think if I wasn't playing him, I wouldn't have started watching Forged in Fire, a Discovery channel show about bladesmiths. I highly recommend it.
Demeter coincides with my already existing love of Southern France, Greece and cooking and gardening.
I know there are probably things for the others but the heat has melted my brain a little.

Honestly, I'm just going to stick with the major two here: Lois and Tavi.
With Lois, I did seriously consider trying out journalism until I was reminded that I am introverted enough that's a totally non-functional idea. Smallville Lois did have me trying maple frosted donuts, which in all fairness to me I would have automatically loved anyway because maple, but she's the reason I thought to try.
As for Tavi, I think the biggest thing I took from him is--coinciding with my LARPing group training me--learning just a little bit how to be more ruthless. Not that I necessarily use it, of course; I'm a little too fond of being sweet. But Tavi's a lot of the reason I started learning to think in rather harsher ways. That, and one day I swear I'll have a cosplay. Prrrooobably just make it functionally Kitai, but still. First Aleran Legion, Battlecrow Cohort armor. I'll get around to it one day.
