Thursday DE

Oof, I feel like I fell off the edge of the earth, Milliways-wise, with some real-life stuff going on. BUT LOOK IT'S A DAILY ENTERTAINMENT TOPIC!

Does your character have siblings or family members in their age group? Which one are they closest with?

Rose has no siblings, unless you want to count Thorn.

Sikozu is a clone, so she has no family, either.

Kylo, until canon tells me different, is an only child. It didn't go well.

AHAHAHA Tess. OKAY. Technically, Tess has had three actual born, blood brothers. The order of them is Lex, Tess, Lucas and Julian (deceased). The only one of these that she has ever met is Lex. According to Tess, they do not get along. Lex... might have a different opinion.

Along the way, she acquired three more sibling-type people. One of them was Grant Gabriel, a clone of Julian that Lex made. They never met. One of them is a clone of Lex that he made himself. It was gross and he's dead now. And then there's Conner, who is a Lex/Clark clone and therefore both Tess's brother and nephew? It's complicated.

Basically, she gets along with Conner best because he's both alive and she knows him.

Jim has two brothers (one canon, one milli - though inspired by ACD canon, where he has two brothers (or one with two entirely random, separate careers). And all three really are called James, because Doyle was special like that. John was called James once. He was not good with names. :/).

Anyway. One is dead. The other is not, as implied by canon. Jim has actually spoken to him a few times since childhood - they are not close (lol, obvs), mainly because Jim was such an absolute sodding nightmare when he was young, and made life hell for his nearest bro, who did not deserve such treatment. He may well be featuring in upcoming OOMs, given Things Jim has in mind.

Sunshine doesn't have any siblings close to her in age, but has two younger half-brothers. Kenny is ten years younger than her, and Billy is thirteen years younger than her. They were closer when they were younger, with Rae telling them stories to keep them entertained when their parents weren't there. Rae and her brothers grew apart during the end years of the Wars, when Rae was going through her rebellious teen stage. Now, while they are parts of the familial landscape for each other and know there is love and care there, they are no longer very close.

What put me in mind of the question was that I've been thinking about Henry V here, who had three brothers and two sisters. I still haven't read the Henry VI plays, where the brothers figure heavily, but in the Henry IV and V plays, even if the brothers don't show up so much, it's always very much part of the picture: he's got this whole formidable gang of brothers. There's a lot of tension there in Henry IV, since he spends a lot of time showing off how much he doesn't care about being the heir to the throne and how John or Thomas would be so much better at it than him, but there's also a lot of loyalty. (The sisters don't show up in the plays but check out Philippa, she was pretty damned impressive. Tough family.)

Loki has a brother. It's a thing.

Amethyst has the Crystal Gems. Garnet and Pearl are sort of her sisters, and sometimes sort of her moms, but mostly they're not human so they aren't any of those things. Steven is more clearly a kid brother.

No siblings for Ellen, Fawkes, Santo, or Stacker.

Quicksilver has two full sisters according to the movies, one being the one he's pictured with on screen (I believe she's supposed to be Wanda) and one who's mentioned as being in another room or upstairs. Unless we go with the theory that he ages a lot faster because of his speed powers, he and Wanda are separated by what looks like at least six years if not more. He's a little protective of his sisters.

Varric has one brother and said brother is a godawful mess according to canon. Varric pays people a good bit of coin to take care of Bartrand, because fixing him isn't in the cards.

Shephard is one of five children and used to be the middle child. Then he got put in suspended animation for twenty-odd years by the G-man and now all his siblings are older than him, or dead, or both, and it is weird. He's closest to his formerly younger brother Danny, though.

Wilford has a brother called Walter. Millicanon, Walter is older. Pretty much everything except the fact that he exists and that he's obsessed with watermelons is millicanon. I wasn't even sure if I was going to use him for a while, because Wilford's canon is the sort of clusterfuck that contradicts itself at every turn, but utlitmatelt he was too weird to not use.

Emcee is an only child as far as he knows (though in the bigger picture, he probably wasn't). He's never really thought of anyone else as a sibling. (The closest he's ever felt to anyone in that way might be Sinric.)

Pam might have been an only child as a human, and I don't think she would have been close to anyone her age. As a vampire, she's Eric's only progeny for a very long time until Willa comes along. They're not very close either. There's a lot of resentment there.

I can't decide if Floki was an only child or not, and I wish the show would have gone into his family background a bit. (Being an only child in viking society wasn't very likely, unless Floki's parents couldn't conceive any more children.) He considers Ragnar as a brother, and everyone else in their raiding party is like family to him.

Cassidy had an older brother. In the comics they were very close, and Cassidy looked up to him. And he was the last person to see Cassidy alive.

Nope! The closest person Baze had to a sibling was Chirrut--and his other brothers and sisters at the temple.

Hera (as far as we know) has no siblings. We don't know that much about her childhood, but my headcanon is that given that she was growing up among her father's resistance to the Separatist occupation and later his Free Ryloth Movement under the Empire, she spent most of her time around other resistance fighters. While this sometimes included those fighters' families, not that many also had children, so Hera was more accustomed to being in a community of adults than with very many others her own age, and into adulthood she had usually found company among others older than she was. Probably the first person close to her age with whom she had that kind of peer relationship was Kanan.

Kanan also didn't have any siblings, but until his teens he grew up in the Jedi Temple with plenty of other children (as well as a community of adult mentors). He had some close friends among the other children during his training, though he also became more distant with them once he was chosen to be a padawan, both because it meant he was leaving the Temple to join fight in the Clone Wars with his master, and because his friends became jealous of him for having been chosen to advance before them. And then Order 66 happened and all his peers were killed, and he didn't become too close to anyone again regardless of age, until he met Hera.

Will has no siblings and really didn't start forming social relationships until he was in his 20s, and even then they tended to be "people I work with and therefore have to be around" without much consideration of age. It's not something that would make much of a difference to him.

Asami has no siblings. She went to a fancy private school and had peers there, though she also spent a lot of time in her father's factories and workshops, where she was mostly around adults. The closest friendships she continued into adulthood with others close to her age were definitely the Avatar crew. Krew?

Tim has a mess of adoptive siblings. I think he's usually closest with Dick but the relationship is a little strained still. I'd say Cass would be the default other strongest but she's not in the country now so.

Charlie's baby sib died in a fire. She may or may not be half-siblings with Black Alice, but that was never clarified.

Rikki's had two version of her brother. One turned out to be a shithead and the other one died IT'S BEEN A FUN LIFE.

Aradia has no siblings, because with the possible exception of monozygotic twins, troll reproduction doesn't work that way; to describe it a bit less crudely than Andrew Hussie did, it basically involves everyone putting their gametes in one big mixed-up pile for the Mother Grub, who then uses them to lay a ton of troll eggs. They seem to use "descendant" or "ancestor" for other trolls born in other times who have immediate-family-level genetic similarity (sharing a personal symbol and a surname), although that basically only happens by coincidence.

Unlike many trolls, Aradia has met a descendant/ancestor of hers who's close to her own age and thus somewhat like a sibling. (From another universe, but that's less important.) Her name's Damara. She's from Troll Japan, she likes saying rude and inappropriate things to make people uncomfortable, and she once went on a violent rampage through her group's Sburb session after being bullied by Meenah Peixes one too many times. Aradia never interacts with her directly on-screen in Homestuck, but seems relieved to be told (...by Meenah...) that she doesn't act like Damara.

Dr Thurlow's only definite canonical relative is an aunt, but I gave them an older brother and a younger sister. They were never all that close, but don't completely hate each other.

I know that I have fallen off the edge of the earth Milliways-wise. >.< But I'm trying to fix that get back into game! And oh hey look it's a Daily Entertainment topic!!

Enjolras is an only child; it's one of the few things canon actually tells us about his family situation. That doesn't rule out cousins or the like, but I tend to play him as having been a fairly solitary kid, especially relative-wise. I figure he's probably got a few cousins, but they live in another bit of the country and don't know each other all that well.

Thor has a brother! THEY'RE VERY CLOSE

or they're close to blows

or both

Cosette has no siblings, nor any other living blood relatives she knows about, even now that she knows her mom via Milliways. She spent several years of her childhood at a convent with a girls' school and had some school friends who lived in the same dorm, etc, but that's not quite the same thing.

Also if the Thénardiers had been less horrible maybe she and Azelma and Éponine could have been like sisters, which is part of what her mother was hoping for in leaving Cosette with them for childcare. Sadly, that one lasted about ten minutes and thereafter became Everything Is Complicated And Terrible. :(

Kazul... you know, I have no idea. She never mentions any. I think if she does, either they're much older or younger and live somewhere else, or it's an "Oh, did I never mention that this friend is actually my sibling? Well, they are." kind of situation. The latter would, admittedly, amuse me. So I might have to go with it, and say she's got a brother and/or a gender-neutral sibling somewhere around the Mountains of Morning, and Cimorene has no idea because Kazul's never thought it was relevant to spell out. She's closer to some other friends, but they get along fine.

Doctor Dinosaur has no (known) siblings (at least currently). This is probably for the best, because they would constantly squabble and there would definitely be collateral damage.
