om nom nom tuesday de
Slipping this in before I bury myself in making tamales de azucar from my grandmother's recipe, which prompts this question:
Are there any foods or meal practices which very strongly give your character a sense of family or home or comfort? Could be as simple as pasta, could be "and this is my family's specific tradition of chocolate and sea salt and caramel on matzo for dessert at Passover." (... not actually mine, but now that I have thought of it, uh, add that to my experimentation list.)
While we're at it, what about you?
EDIT: Hell with this. RECIPE SWAP IF YOU WANT, GO GO GO! DELICIOUS FOODS FOR THE FOOD GOD.

For Rose, it was her mother's meatloaf. But she'll never have that again, so any memories it would bring to her are moot.
Kylo and Sikozu don't really identify with food in that kind of way. Kylo eats because it's part of his routine. Sikozu only eats about once a month and she'll eat anything at that time. She is partial to chocolate milkshakes. They remind her of Milliways.

Charles still lives in his home but for comfort, I think it comes in English tea which reminds him of better days when he was younger.
Quentin misses Tim Hortons but I think donuts and coffee have become new comfort foods.
Spiced wine is a major taste of home for Sameth and he missed it when he was at school.
William, I don't know. He doesn't have the greatest variety of food in his life and I think whatever his mother makes is home.
Will S., hm, I think he's another like William where his happiest things are fresh baked bread. There are foods not from his era that he associates with Milliways' people.
Ivan, I'm not sure. I'd have to reread the books but I think it comes down to making some dishes in a Barrayaran way.
Tumnus bakes because his father did and I think his scone recipe, making it brings up memories of his father.
Demeter is usually the one who creates a home and to Kore, its more about plants versus food.
Moist, I'm not sure.

Sherlock, when he does eat, seems partial to things he can eat quickly and without utensils.
This is my favorite family recipe: Afton's chocolate sauce.
Ingredients:
4 oz. unsweetened baking chocolate
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup of butter
1 12-ounce can of evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
In a double boiler, melt the chocolate and the butter until they're smooth, then stir in the the sugars. When they're all dissolved stir in the evaporated milk. When it's all incorporated remove from heat, add a teaspoon of vanilla, and serve over whatever you like with chocolate: vanilla ice cream, cream puffs, brownie cake, fresh fruit, shortbread, etc.

Cowboy beans:
One or two cups of pinto beans
Garlic cloves to taste, I put in 2-4 whole ones.
Some red chile powder, or crushed red chile (The kind from New Mexico)
bacon- can be substituted with bacon fat and miso, or just Miso.
Cumin
And water.
You can make this in several ways: Pressure cooker, bean pot, slow cooker, ect. Just make sure you add enough water otherwise you end up with burned beans.
Mac and Cheese:
oil, onion, flour, milk, cheese, and macaroni.
I don't know exact measurements cause I don't do it. I tend to just play it by ear. So, brown your onions in the oil, then remove the onions, and add flour and stir till all the oil is absorbed, but not too dry. You can make a penny rue, if you want, but we are making cheese sauce. Then add milk slowly till it.. I can't describe it it's just a feeling I get. Then you add grated cheese, use a softer cheese, not something hard and oily like Parmesan. I usually use Cheddar. Let the cheese melt into the smooth white sauce and put your onions back in. After this you can add the cooked pasta and serve. Also, feel free to doctor it up, sometimes I add ham. I also like to eat it with hot sauce and catsup.
Flat Enchiladas are also special. I don't feel like explaining this one, if you want it ping me.

Cookie Base
2 1/4 cups plain flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
250g unsalted butter
1 cup packed light-brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Filling
(honestly, I just made this up from what I had in the cupboard)
About a cup of chopped dried apricots
About a cup of dried pineapple
A bag of glace cherries
Half a cup-ish of dark choc chips
About a cup of flaked almonds
Whatever other dried fruit or nuts take your fancy (or happen to be available.)
• Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
• Mix together flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
• Microwave butter till it’s softish in another bowl. Add sugars, and beat until fluffy. Mix in eggs one at a time until combined; mix in vanilla.
• Add flour mixture to butter mix, combined.
• Stir in whatever dried fruit and nuts you want.
• Roll into balls whatever size you want. Flatten slightly onto a baking paper lined tray
• Bake for about 12 to 15 minutes. I took mine out at about 10 minutes so they stayed soft.
• Cool on a wire rack on the baking paper. Don’t burn your fingers.
Makes many! Eat lots while they’re still hot. They’re awesome like that.
Share, freeze, or hoard them all for yourself. Enjoy!

Sabine seems like she'd have some Mandalorian dish but canon is vague in Mando'a culture and cuisine.
Selina's mom would always make pancakes shaped like cats. (I don't know if this will fit the woman we meet in s03, but I'm calling it.)
Izana doesn't eat more than once a week. I think their grandmother would serve a special blend of tea and that's their comfort.
Returning pup whom I'm still working on the app: Loves food and especially anything that is signature New York. He has a tender spot for pizza and Dagwood sandwiches, but I think the dish that says family to him are latkes.
For myself, in the past year I've been making what I call Chateau pie that's become the family comfort food; Shepard's pie with ground turkey and herb de Provence. I'll write out a recipe if folks are interested.
