Weekend DE

I've a day of waiting between water polo games, so entertain me peoples! This one suggested by Fi.

How does your character feel about nicknames and their name? Do they have one? Do they bristle when called the wrong name? What name do they prefer?

If it’s coming from someone he likes, Wilford will put up with nicknames. He will call people by the completely wrong name sometimes, and will put up with the same if it’s in good fun.

If it’s from someone he doesn’t like, they may get punched.

Technically, Sherlock is a nickname, and people call him variations (Shezza, Sherl) of it all the time. When it's for work, he doesn't mind. Jim, of course, is allowed to call him anything he wants, though "Scotty" makes him flinch a bit.

Steve already goes by a nickname from most people; the ones who called him 'Steven' are mostly gone. Bucky has Best Friend's Prerogative to call him 'Stevie,' but they've both probably outgrown that.

Tess is a nickname. Originally, she thought it was from Theresa (headcanon) but has found out it's from Lutessa. She hates Lutessa and will show her displeasure when someone uses it. She thinks Tess is just fine.

Rose is also a nickname. Her full name is Rhosyn. She doesn't mind being called Rhosyn, but she prefers Rose, thinking it sounds more grown up and is who she is now as an adult.

Kylo is occasionally called The Jedi Killer, but that's not really a nickname.

Sikozu seems to be her full name and it's what she uses when introducing herself. The crew has called her things like "Zippo Girl" and "Psycho Zoo" but those don't stick. She prefers Sikozu.

Baze has "bantha" as a nickname Chirrut gave him. Only Chirrut is allowed to call him that.

Baze loves his name and gets tetchy when people mistake it.

Sahaal hates his first name. Not for any particularly deep reason, he just doesn't like how it sounds or that it seems up just be a random tacked-on syllable. He's been so far successful in getting people to only use his surname.

He doesn't mind nicknames, he even has the canonical one of Talonmaster (though that's technically a title but oh well), but it would have to come from someone he actually got on with.

Emcee has been called every nickname under the sun, both derogatory and affectionate (Eric calls him Mausi which is somewhere in between, I'm sure), and has used multiple names in the past, but has taken on the title of Master of Ceremonies as his own name. As far as he's concerned, Emcee is who he is and nothing else suits him, so he prefers it to anything like a "normal" name. He does have an official alias now on his papers, which he keeps forgetting because nobody ever uses it to address him.

Pam prefers Pam or Miss De Beaufort, and nothing else. No, really. Not sweetie, darling, honey, etc. She'll tear your tongue out for that. And the only person who calls her Pamela is Eric when he's being serious. Kind of like a parent when they use their child's full name.

Floki has been nicknamed many things along the line of joker or fool or mad, which he does bristle at occasionally, depending on who says it, but he's learned to own it. Floki the boat builder or Floki the shipwright are the more usual things he's called.

Cassidy's name is actually his last name. It's true! He's even lying about that! He prefers Cassidy to his given first name, which should never ever be uttered unless you're blood family. It's Proinsias, pronounced "pron-shus," which is Irish Gaelic for Francis. So you see why he hates it and nobody will ever know about it. He doesn't mind being called Cass if you're pals with him, though. Jesse calls him that almost straight away, and though Tulip takes a while to warm up to him, she eventually calls him that, too.

Amascut is so used to no one speaking her name that she is used to people calling her by other names. Its a bit of unexpected pleasure when some actually says her name out loud.

She will not let anyone get away with calling her a name that implies she's mentally ill, though. Calling her ugly is inadvisable, too, but that doesn't ever happen *so much vanity and smugness*

The name Fairy Fixit sounds more like a title or job description. But, Zanarian fairies are such an odd magical blend of sentient Cordyceps fungus and highly social insect that its hard to say whether she is just okay with it or if she expects that people call her Fairy Fixit, even her friends. Sometime ago I played around with the idea that her actual name was Ysbail or maybe it once was, but I am not to sure about that idea these days.

Jim doesn't mind variations of his name, except for Jimmy. Because it's stupid, and also he was stuck with it growing up and he doesn't like to waste time being reminded of what an entirely sucky period of life that was. He likes James, he likes Jim, and he only freaked when Sherlock wanted to call him Jamie because it seemed like he was trying to pretend he was someone else. Now he knows that Sherlock accepts him for what he is, he doesn't care what he calls him.

Except not Jimmy.

He's also well-used to just being known by his surname. It's far more normal for him to be referred to as Moriarty than by any variation of his first name, which is why it amuses him to give Sherlock 'Jim' instead of 'James'. It's about as familiar and informal as you can get.

It's not exactly a nickname, but when Kanan was much younger, he haaaaaaaaaated being called "kid." Like complained about it every single time somebody did it, and people did it all the time. So naturally he calls Ezra this all the time. Also not exactly a nickname, but Kanan's actual birth name was Caleb Dume; he changed it after Order 66, and probably drew from Janus Kasmir, the name of a smuggler who helped him survive when he first started living as a fugitive. Kanan is rarely referred to by his birth name, even by the few who know it, but he would absolutely hate to be called it. He needs to be able to separate that life, and the life he could have had, from what he has now - just hearing it cuts across that boundary. As far as he's concerned, Caleb died in Order 66, and even reclaiming his Jedi identity hasn't changed that.

Also, Imperials often just refer to Kanan as "the Jedi," but then, there aren't a lot of others to confuse him with.

And not canon, but I've sort of headcanoned that 'Hera' is sort of the Basic-ized version of her name, and in Twi'leki it would be something more like 'Her-eh.' Of course, yes, it's also a name drawn from something that doesn't exist in Star Wars-verse so... [shrug emoji] She's perfectly fine with both pronunciations, it's like that each rolls off the tongue easier in its respective language. Aside from that, she doesn't really have nicknames - sometimes, when he's trying to get on her nerves, Kanan will call Hera things like 'Captain Hera' or 'General Hera.' But that's about it.

Cassian have covers so he likes having his name used. In canon, the closest he has to a nickname is being called captain by Chirrut. Though I headcanon that being called Andor is pretty common as his CO is fairly military in how he deals with everything. I personally get a needle scratch at the idea of calling him Cass and I think for him it would depend who its coming from and how its meant.

Quentin has a love/hate relationship with Toby and the Luidaeg calling him kid, he knows it means they're fond of him but he's growing up. Later in canon, Tybalt gives him another nickname that he doens't really like. He has his name and wants it used.

Sameth gets called Sam in canon which he likes, he doesn't like Yrael's nicknames as much.

William is called Will in canon which is the nickname he likes of all the options for William.

Ivan doesn't have any nicknames, he wouldn't really want one.

Will S. is another that his name is the shortened version, there's not too much more to add to it.

Charles doesn't like nicknames, he might not mind as much if he knows fondness behind it like from Logan, but he's Charles.

Demeter doesn't mind being Dem, she has titles so a nickname is close to that.

Tumnus doesn't have any but I don't think he'd mind one.

My name is already short as its plain Kate. I always think someone else is being talked to when someone calls me Katie. I've also had people extend my name which is weird too. Thanks to Milliways, I also answer to Fi now.
