Advent Thing
Explanation:
The original idea was to do an advent calendar for the entire month, but for the sake of sanity and giving a better chance to actually have enough to go around its being shortened to the 12 days of Milli-Winter-Shenanigans!
The aim of our event is to pair up those who wish to write and those who’d like to draw (or paint, or sculpt, or macaroni art, choose-your-visual-medium) for some Milliways-centric goodness to share with the comm.
Each day we will release a new story and visual artwork for everyone to enjoy.
The sharing starts December 13th and runs through December 24th (yes, I know, the “Real” Twelve days of Christmas runs the 25th through whatever, but it makes more sense in my head to do it this way and besides that this is Milli-Winter-Shenanigans and not even strictly Christmas related, so nyah!). Thus, it only makes sense to get things in on December 8th.
We’re hoping for a fic and pic a day, but there’s no law saying we can’t do more than one of each so if we end up with more people than days well that’s just awesome-sauce and we’ll just post more than one a day.
But Anna, what if we DON’T end up with enough for one a day?!
Well folks, that’s when we hit our contingency plan.
Plan A: We have enough people, everyone gets their stuff in on time and all runs smooth as peppermint mocha.
Plan B: Life happens and we end up a writer or artist short. In this scenario we look to our backups! If you would like to serve as a backup please sign up in the ‘backup thread’ below, stating whether you’re willing to serve as writer and/or artist (you can totally do both! And you can volunteer to write/artist for a day and also be willing to pinch-hit if something goes awry!)
So, here’s how it’s going to go:
Sign-ups will run a week, so from today until next Saturday (November 11th 11:59PM EST). Below you’ll find threads for writers, artists, and backups. Sign up in whichever category you’d like to submit from. Sign up under one, two, or all three.
Few things about volunteering:
• Everything needs to be SFW. Let’s keep it PG-13 or under for this, m’kay?
• There is no limit on fic length. Fill the prompt you receive as you see fit, with however many words you want to use. We just ask it be a little longer than a haiku. (Unless of course it’s a really kick-ass haiku or something. One of those ones that are so profoundly deep they make you cry. Or laugh hysterically. Then I guess that’d be okay.)
• When you sign up as a writer list which pup you would like to write a fic for (or pups) and a good way to contact you. The contact info is for both those setting this advent thing up, and your artist so y’all can coordinate. Please use at least a journal PM and/or an email. You may also list an AIM or Discord handle (or whatever other chat service is out there), but remember not everyone uses these, so list one of the first two options as well.
• Artists, your work is going to be based on the writer, so no need to post which pup, but do list your contact info so the writer can get in touch with you as well. Again, this can be a PM to whichever journal or an email, and then a handle if you have one.
• Artists can illustrate the story however they see fit. Drawing a scene, painting an object or landscape from within it, storyboarding it, a portrait of the character or whatever. The choice is yours.
• Backups, since you’ll be springing into action if/when the call comes no need to list a pup as a writer (to clarify this, you won’t be asked to write for another pup, the option is just being left open to you to choose which pup you want to write for when the time comes), just include contact info and what service you’re willing and able to provide.
There is also a thread for ‘Prompts’. Since this is Milli-Winter-Shenanigans we’d like to keep it to a winter-esque theme. It doesn’t necessarily have to be holiday related, but it can be, just be mindful that not everyone celebrates every holiday, and neither do the pups who might be involved.
Prompts can be whatever you’d like. One word, five, a song lyric, a scenario, what have you. I suspect we’ll end up with more prompts than days/stories, so what’ll happen is come November 12th all the submitted prompts will be numbered and those numbers will be tossed into a random generator, and selections will be made until we’re out of stories to assign.
The same thing will happen with characters/writers and then artists to stories/prompts. I’m not going to go full blown detail on how it works, just trust that when it’s all done everyone who wants to write will have the opportunity, and each of their stories will have an artist, and both of them will have a prompt.
Does that make sense? I bet it doesn’t.
The last and final thread below is for questions. Feel free to ask them. We shall endeavor to answer.
