Okay.
So!

Apps for November are as done as I can make them. Folks who owe things know who they are.
I might have also gone wading into the Mod Gmail Account...and found things. Terrible things.
Mostly terrible due to the fact that they got buried under a whole lot of cast/contact/account maintenance autoposts.

With that in mind, and because there's a few bright moments of HOMG SCHOOL, I'm putting this post up here.

So, do I actually have to make an app for a plot journal, or is the "please approve this plot" email plus joining the community with the journal in question enough?

Oooh, good question!

A traditional app isn't necessary for Plot Specific Characters.
However, a short blurb regarding the character the plot in question would be greatly appreciated.

So shoot something like that to the Milliways_Apps account.
Just so we have a nice solid paper trail of who goes where with what.

At the end of the plot, the membership of the character in question will be revoked, until such time as a proper app comes in during app times.

I actually think you do an awesome job. Is there anything we are doing that is causing you unnecessary additional workload?

We did briefly discuss having some sort of marker on the cast list for infirmary staff, but for the sake of your workload and the fact that most medics do not join the infirmary at the same time as they join the cast list, we could always just stick to the List which is now linked on the infirmary sticky.

Much the same way as the Security Folks get * marks?

It's on my To Do list to update both lists tomorrow, so I can cross reference the Infirmary Sticky and update accordingly.

The only other thing that springs to mind that I think was on the to do list is the infinite loop. I would offer to help but I don't know how to fix either.

Oh crap, remind me what that is.

How the comm only loads about one time in five.

When you go onto the bar's main page about 80% of the time you get this weird message that says that it's stuck in an infinite loop. It's been there about a year. There's a workaround by loading it in your own style but that makes the side links disappear. I'm not sure how to explain it, want me to screencap it next time?

This does indeed happen a lot. For some reason the Back Room hardly ever does it even though they use the same style. I generally get around it by refreshing the page until it starts working again (sometimes with a break of a couple minutes in between to let the server breathe, if the first 1-3 refreshes don't do the trick), but this seems like it might be hard on Dreamwidth's servers.

It does: but I'm sure it's just one line of code somewhere to fix, for clever coding types.

Sadly, I am not so much a clever coding type.

My honest suggestion would be to use one of DW's built-in stylesheets. A couple of years ago, someone put a lot of time and effort into building a lot of very pretty ones that work right out of the box. But since it was a DW update that broke the CSS, I wouldn't trust a fix to last through the next code push, honestly. But the out of the box stylesheets are why the "view in my style" workaround works. They're not broken, because when DW updates how the site works, they can anticipate how their own stylesheets will behave. I'm not holding my breath for a fix from DW, since it's been over a year and I've submitted countless tickets about it, and no1curr. The "view in my style" workaround is fine if you just want to view the main page, but like others have said, it erases all of the community's metadata and replaces it with your own. (F'rex, I don't see links for the back room, other communities, and popular tags. I see links for Wilford's dog.)

I'd be willing to move all of the game's metadata over to a new layout, and take the time to make them match what we have currently, as much as possible.
