Monday DE: Breath out and twist

I’ve recently started a 30 days of yoga challenge with some online friends and it has me thinking about mobility. Which of course leads to my thinking of my pups. So how mobile is your pup? I know we have a lot of physically active types but is the anything that they hesitate doing? Do they pause at the effort of crouching down to the floor and how hard it will be to stand again? Do they have a knee that they don’t trust too well? Anything?

This is a rare aspect of fanon I actually agree with. Because Wilford's actor spends a lot of time at the gym, it follows that Wilford probably isn't much of a couch potato himself. Though where they differ is that you wouldn't catch Wilford wearing some bro tank to show off his arms.

In my own headcanon, Wilford boxes and prefers weights over rock climbing (which is what his actor does).

Tess is pretty flexible, as she does yoga regularly and has been trained in several martial arts. The only part that bothers her sometimes is her abdomen, cause Lex shoved a sword in it once.

Rose is also pretty flexible, basically unknown to her, but she's relatively untrained. Thorn just kind of goes with it.

Kylo should have a shoulder issue, but we'll see what canon says.

Emcee is pretty flexible, being a dancer, but he's pretty lazy and doesn't bother exercising in a formal, regular way. Actually now that he's not performing on a nightly basis he's a little out of shape, though he does get some activity in via rigorous sex. Other than that he avoids physical exertion.

Cassidy is the laziest couch potato. He's a vampire, he doesn't need to exercise and nothing hurts. He hates having to get up and do shit.

Pam is also lazy. She knows this, Eric knows this. However she's extremely flexible and trained in stealth and physical combat, and she will only demonstrate if necessary. Because lazy.

I would imagine that a Viking like Floki suffers from a myriad of aches and pains from work and wounds sustained in battle. If it wasn't for a Milliways intervention I think his arm/wrist would still be sore after Rollo broke it, but that's the kind of thing he would have to live with and would never let it show.

Baze canonically suffers from arthritis in his knees from all the hard landings and parkour he's done over the years. Naturally, in Millicanon, this has extended to arthritis in most of his joints.

So, while he doesn't think about a hard landing or how to stand up from a crouch until he's already in the positions, he's certainly not as flexible as he used to be.

Clint has definitely aged-- he has some issues with back stiffness and pain, so is less comfortable with quickly standing & crouching, and generally flinging himself around or staying still in a crouched position than he used to be. He dreads the day when his hands begin to be affected.

Chuck is strong and young, but he's not the most graceful guy by nature. He plans anything before he does it, and while he technically COULD do something like get up and down from the rafters, that doesn't sound like fun to him. He is also always aware of the potential for injury-- he comes from a world where his being injured from doing something dumb might cost other people their lives.

Legolas just moves. He is a brat.

Melinda May does not enjoy jumping-- she's confident she can do it, but she feels weird and out of place not having any contact with a solid surface. If she was in the bending universe, she'd definitely be an earthbender.

Most of mine are still too young for tough lifestyles to really catch up to them yet. That said, Hal died just as he was starting to feel some effects of old injuries--and just starting to maybe need glasses. If it comes up his reaction is to push himself a little harder to show that he totally still can because he's NOT OLD OKAY.

Feuilly has probably been flirting with carpal tunnel issues forever, what with working at painting fans for hours on end since he was a kid. It...hasn't occurred to him that this is anything other than normal and inevitable and something everyone just works through.

...There is probably something that can be done for that carpal tunnel thing, if Feuilly'd gripe about it. If Only he had prying medically-minded friends!

He really should gripe a bit, dammit. Maybe it'll occur to him that if Joly was able to help with his dog's cataracts there could conceivably be something someone could do for his wrists.

Sahaal's genhanced, so he can keep pretty active even with some of his old war wounds. There is his right shoulder, which gives him some aches and pains every once in a while thanks to Acerbus breaking it, but that's about it.

In terms of how active he is, he runs every day, has an exercise routine he sticks to, and gets into at least one firefight a week. So pretty active.

Bahorel doesn't hesitate to do things! Pretty much anythings! Really he should probably should be a physical wreck, given this lifestyle choice, but the genetic lottery and Symbolism have kept him in fine shape; he was always going to be one of those guys who was obnoxiously healthy until he died, and now he's just dead and obnoxiously healthy.

Joly on the other hand was always sickly in life; he's a lot better post-death, but he'll probably never stop being the guy who brings along an umbrella and tissues and cough drops etc etc. He's also got a somewhat reduced stamina and a slightly twisted leg as a souvenir from cascading childhood diseases of the early 19th century; it trips him up when he starts getting tired, so he's a little more cautious on long walks and such than he would be otherwise, and always keeps his cane close by. He can dance, he can move around without people noticing usually, but he's never going to try and get into Athletics.

Steven Universe is effectively a superhero; this sometimes brings some unexpected physiological surprises, but he's never had to worry about taking physical damage, and anyway he's twelve, he bounces back mentally and physically.

Gringoire has a lot of endurance, and a surprising turn of speed, but he can't carry or lift worth a darn-- Djali's his maximum capacity if he wants to carry something and still move at more than a crawl, and Djali is quite a small goat. He also can't fight. Or hold his liquor. This is why he's gone into Poetry.

genarti: Thor from the Marvel movies grinning unconcernedly ([mcu] golden retriever grin)

Ooh, I really like this question! Such a useful thing to think about with characters. (Even if some of mine have very boring answers.)

Thor is very physically fit and active, but I don't get the impression he's especially flexible. Like, he's within normal bounds for an athletic person, but not notably more. But unless he's just been significantly injured (in which case he's a horrible patient and I'm so sorry for anyone who has to deal with him), there's not really anything in the course of daily life that he physically hesitates about or works around.

Enjolras, too, is very physically active. He also died at 26, so no age-related stiffness had really started to kick in yet. I'm sure he's occasionally had minor injuries or strains or "ow, overworked that muscle" or whatever, but in the course of general life, no, not really.

Cosette, I'll have to think about some more. There's nothing canonical. She too is young and generally healthy, but of course that doesn't rule any of this out, and she's not expressly very athletic like Thor and Enjolras.

Kazul is still pretty darn spry, but I think slightly less than she used to be. I suspect that's maybe part of why she likes having a princess to brush her scales for her -- not that she can't, but that it's much more comfortable to not have to twist around to reach every hard-to-reach spot, anymore. And there are probably some particular hunkered positions or great athletic leaps that she will generally opt to avoid, these days, just because she's a little stiffer than she once was.

Doctor Dinosaur is IN THE PEAK OF REPTILIAN HEALTH, WITH AN ATHLETICISM YOU PUNY MAMMALS CAN ONLY DREAM OF!!! (He occasionally has some jaw soreness, which definitely has nothing to do with his occasional habit of trying to eat metal robots.)

Brienne is extremely strong and hardy; she's not especially flexible but not especially stiff either, and she's only 18-19 years old. She can do just about anything martial. But she gets really awkward and clumsy at dancing or any other physical activity she thinks requires prettiness and delicacy or grace.

Combeferre is surprisingly strong due to 19th-century medicine requiring him to hold down patients while cutting through them. He is competent but not great at anything requiring his limbs to be coordinated, like dancing or fighting. He hesitates at neck and shoulder movements a bit--he has a near-constant ache in that part of his body from reading a lot and not stretching enough.

Garnet is a superpowered rock and doesn't hesitate at much of anything.

Fantine was healthy until she got probably-tuberculosis (exacerbated by a horrible person shoving snow down her back while she was out and underdressed in the winter), at which point she became very weak and barely able to sit up. In Milliways she doesn't hesitate at most physical activity, really--in fact she revels in being able to do things she couldn't in her last couple of months.

Jehan Prouvaire got stabbed in the leg once as part of an overenthusiastic duel LARP-thing and still felt the injury on cold days when he was alive. It's gone in Milliways after his death, though.
