Thanks to looking out my window and making plans to cancel various things...

What role does weather--or the physical climate--play in your character's life? Are they from a society that's pretty much overcome anything but minor nuisances from weather/climate, or are they constantly worrying about the elements?

(dear vampires, sorry about your sunlight problems)

Rae comes from a world where the entire human population is thankful for vampires' sunlight problems, and probably owes their continued existence to those sunlight problems. But that is not quite a weather thing since cloud cover and thick clothing is known not to be enough to save a vampire from said sunlight problems. With all the mentions of refugees and people being displaced from their homes due to the Wars that take place a decade or so before canon is set, I do tend to play Sunshine as being from a world where a lot of the extreme latitudes are less populated because of just how long their nights get during winters, though that sort of millicanon doesn't really come up in conversation much. Her world's attitude towards weather itself is pretty much like ours.

Sunshine herself tends to be affected by weather/climate a bit more than what would be considered usual for a baseline human. She feels her best on hot, sunny days and tends to get tired easily in winter when there isn't much sun. The canonical only time she's been sick was when she was six years old and she and her mother - then in semi-hiding from Rae's father - were living in a windowless basement apartment for the colder six months of the year. The lack of access to sunlight is what affected her so strongly, and it was eventually regaining access to sunlight which healed her.

Yrael likewise comes from a world where creatures with sunlight problems have absolutely shaped society's views of weather and climate. The Old Kingdom's climate is loosely based on Scotland, but is at risk from the Dead who walk in Life and serve the will of whatever necromancer raised them. Nighttime, overcast skies, thick mist, etc. are genuinely dangerous for the living human population, because that is when they are most at risk from the Dead. Necromancers often call up mists or clouds so their Dead servants might more easily work. Sunlight will damage weaker Dead to the point where they lose their ability to walk in Life (most Dead will hide during the day and only come out during the night), but that effect is lessened the stronger the Dead spirit is. Greater Dead Adepts, which include some necromancers themselves, may find sunlight a mere inconvenience, though the two technically-dead necromancers that appear in canon (Kerrigor and Chlorr) are mentioned as wearing many layers of clothes.

Weather is a definite factor in Old Kingdom life, whether in relation to the dangers from the Dead, or simply in making travel slow, difficult, and dangerous. As to what role weather plays in Yrael's life... he'd rather be inside, thanks.

Bastion themself is pretty weatherproof; they can handle much colder ambient temperatures than an unprotected human with no problem, a similar degree of ambient heat to what humans can deal with, and are well-sealed against moisture. Ganymede would be affected long before the weather did any significant harm to Bastion themself, being a fairly normal bird. They might be able to get an omnic equivalent of heatstroke from trying to operate in an extremely hot climate, though, depending on how effective their cooling systems are.

The world they're from seems to be in about the same position as ours in terms of day-to-day weather, although the proliferation of supertall skyscrapers in the background of urban maps suggests that they've got futuristic materials that more effectively resist high winds. I'd say the world of Overwatch falls firmly into weather as a minor nuisance, except that climate change has done some fairly serious damage by the 2070s there; you can see a few badly flooded coastlines when looking at Earth from the map set on the Moon, and apparently it's somewhat intentional even if it's also somewhat exaggerated for visual effect. This hasn't been given a lot of attention in the lore, probably because it's not as urgent a concern as the robot uprising or as personal to most of the cast as the decline and fall of Overwatch, but it's important to at least one playable character's motivation.

Tess is far more interested in the weather than she used to be, now that she has wind control powers. She has to take weather into account now when she's using her powers to make sure she's not going overboard.

For Rose and Kylo it's not that big of a deal. It affects them as it would anyone else.

Victor isn't fan of warm weather so will usually stay up north during the summer.

Graverobber's homeless, so any changes to the weather tend to affect him and annoy him. He lives in the Bay Area of California so he's never freezing or dealing with snow, though, which is helpful. He does hate it when it rains, especially at night.

Selina is homeless and living on the streets. Add to this that Gotham is typically shown to be on the East Coast, and weather is a pretty important consideration. During the warmer months, she keeps to herself and has several places she squats at. Once it starts getting colder, she'll find a gang to hang with for a bit that has warmer places to crash at...assuming she doesn't already have a warm place lined up.

(Jay has been a huge help with good places to look for.)

During his life on Jedha, the weather was cold and dry, and Baze had to keep bundled up. The rare rain was cause for concern, as the ground was too dried out to absorb much water, and thus flooding was a problem.

During his afterlife in Milliways, Baze has been amazed at the warmth of summer and the crispness in fall and the snow of winter. He plays in the latter at every opportunity, and enjoyed the summer rain.

Enjolras and Cosette: They're both insulated by wealth enough to not be constantly worrying -- they've got warm clothes, housing, fuel for the stove -- but also definitely not from a post-climate society. On a day-to-day basis, weather affects a lot! Food, for example; no refrigeration or rapid shipping yet, so the available food depended on what was in season, and everybody notices a bad harvest. If it's cold, you're burning wood or coal in your stove. If it's wet, you get rained on, or at least you have to dodge puddles in getting to a carriage. Etc. And, insulated or not, they're both the kind of people who are very aware of what weather means to poorer people.

...In a less quotidian and also more Enjolras-specific note: you might or might not be surprised at the effect of lots of rain on things like 1) attendance at funeral processions turned uprisings and 2) gunpowder. :|

Thor loves weather! Weather's great! Especially thunderstorms, they're the BEST!

Uh, but I don't think Asgardians worry much about the elements. Certainly their architecture doesn't suggest it, and neither does their fashion, and none of the non-Thor Asgardians we see seem much concerned. Whether that's a matter of innate biology or a matter of society-wide magic or tech or whatever isn't totally clear, but in any case, they don't seem to be much bothered.

Kazul... Well, it's kind of hard to say, because we don't really see a lot of climate in canon. The general environment is broadly European, in terms of plants and animals and such, but we don't actually see seasons, as such. I assume they happen, though, and I assume they're extremely picturesque, and I assume that Kazul can shrug off any weather she wants but would rather prefer to stay inside with hot drinks on any days full of unpleasant precipitation.

Doctor Dinosaur shouts loudly about being a reptile, but I'm not sure he shows any signs of being actually ectothermic. (Doctor Dinosaur is an unreliable witness, news at eleven.) Then again, I don't think we ever see him in actually cold places, I suppose. Anyway! He lives in an only slightly alternate early 21st century, so unless he's bringing mad science to bear (always possible) he pretty much has the same level of societal susceptibility to weather that most of us reading this do.
