Friday DE: Flashback
It’s almost the weekend. I hope you get to enjoy it.
How about you tell us about any early fanworks you might have done?

I think fanfiction.net mercifully took it down several years ago after a rule change, which is for the best, really.

Also not-good halfhearted marauders-era HP fanfic, involving mysterious curses whose nature I hadn't really thought out, and unrequited love.

I still love it dearly.

At the elementary school I went to, when you graduate the last big project was to make a book which we were told would be kept in the library for future children to read. I don't know if the library ever kept those books or for how long--seems a bit impractical for a school before the digital age, tbh--but I wrote this awesome (or so I thought) book that was a story set in the TV show Flipper's world. I don't know why I loved that show, but I did. And man, I can still see those awful dolphins I drew.
Then, as if I'd only gotten a taste, a few years later in middle school we had an assignment to rework the lyrics of any song we chose. At the time two things were huge in my brain, the first Wolverine miniseries and Survivor's Eye of the Tiger, two great tastes that taste better as one...or something. Yes, I filked Survivor.

I wrote a backstory for my first D&D character who I started playing a summer in middle school and assorted backstories for other RP characters. Oh and I once did a book report/fanfic from the Three Musketeers where I wrote some of D'Artagnan's diary and then tea stained the pages.
Oh and during elementary school, my best friend and I wrote long and complex stories on index cards with illustrations of houses that we decorated.

Actually maybe before that, or around the same time, I wrote a Blackadder II screenplay. Yes, British comedy was essential in my formative years.

I can't think of a time I wasn't a fan of something and wanting to participate with stories.

And after seeing the 1989 Batman film, I fleshed out the idea for a spinoff TV show about Alexander Knox. So if you ever wondered where I got the idea to play him in the Bar, it came from that impulse. It would have been about Knox, Commissioner Gordon, and the lower level crooks and weirdoes that never get Batman's attention except in a season finale (because Michael Keaton wasn't going to be on a TV show). A few of the ideas I had from the show trickled into my RP, but I never wrote most of them down.

Otherwise my earliest stuff was some weird massive crossover that was expanding the geopolitics of Enchanted Forest Chronicles and trying to fix that Mendanbar was totally out of touch for years because I thought that was massively unfair, and it was kinda a self-insert except that, like, said self-insert just literally turned into in-character Cimorene because why make up someone new when you can be Cimorene. I even made up a family name for the royal house of Linderwall. That fic was pretty terrible, I grant you. But it was also for a class and never saw the light of day.
I do still have up online a Sandman story I wrote in '08 and am happy to link to it for the curious.
