Following up yesterday (by US Eastern time):

What spot of missing worldbuilding have you not created but would love to ask you canon's creator about?

Seconding this.

In a similar vein: WHAT HAPPENED TO GABE? HOW REAPER?

I thought the answer to HOW REAPER? was BLAME MOIRA, but then again I don't pay enough attention to Overwatch lore. At least it isn't BLAME MERCY anymore.

BLAME MOIRA is certainly a big part of it, but it seems Mercy's tech is still at least partially responsible judging by clues on the Oasis map. Whatever Moira did to Gabriel she tested it on herself first (her hand is already altered in the picture of that scene). I'm guessing she was trying to give him her Fade ability, which is described as a teleport.

He...didn't quite get that. If anything his version of the teleport is worse: it's slow and takes time to activate whereas hers is instantaneous. It's unclear how much of the difference is due to game mechanics but it seems obvious something went wrong somewhere.

Wallmakers in the Old Kingdom, there's never enough information. I've done some creating of how Sameth works from canon but there were books in the past and not enough about Wallmakers. This is a long running grumble of mine.

For Star Wars, it's mainly little things to do with timing. I don't want a lot of detail for backstory, I like filling that in but a more would be great. When did the transition from anarchist/old separatist cells to Rebellion happen? When did Cassian become Fulcrum, how long did he have that codename? How is it shifted? Do multiple people use it or one at once? I've done a few ideas in fic but that kind of worldbuilding is tricky in SWs as it depends on where you are and all that kind of thing. Also droids, I have so many questions and don't even know where to start filling things in.

For a lot of the others, I don't have things I can immediately think of, but I did spend today busy teaching drama. I might have more later.

Rebels kind of answers the Fulcrum thing. In season 3 Hera says:

Fulcrum's a code name we give to our secret informants. It was Ahsoka's idea. There are other Fulcrum agents. She was among them.

I think that pretty much says Fulcrum's a code name they used generally for undercover informants, and doesn't necessarily refer to any one specific agent.

Thank you, I'd forgotten that. I'd still be curious to know when Cassian first used it. I need to catch up on Rebels. And I was also thinking that Ahsoka could be a good way at some point for the Rebels crew and Cassian to realize they're connected.

Don't know why I never added to this, but yes, what Kanan-mun said. The Ahsoka novel does suggest she's the first to use the codename, but I can see her realizing how useful it would be to have many people using it pretty quickly; both as a means to protect the agent and to confuse the Empire.

Dear Garth Ennis, Seth Rogen, and Sam Catlin,

Please, please tell me exactly how your version of vampires work. Be specific. How are they made? How many are there in the world? What are their powers and why are you being so inconsistent with what Cassidy can and can't do? HELP ME OUT HERE.

I’d like to know why the retcon changed so much about everything. It had already been established that everything shared a connected universe, so the retcon just confused more things than it cleared up. Pretty much the only thing that didn’t change was the army of halfwit clones running a news network.

I mean, think of the adventures! AMASCUT IN SPAAAAAAAACE!

His entire backstory

[personal profile] screamingaboutrecipes 2018-01-30 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean I'm sure I could come up with a semi-decent backstory for him but in canon he just Appears in Noctis's life as an arm and a hand and became his adviser/chamberlain and there's 0 detail in canon as to where exactly the fuck he came from.

Given that his AI is notorious for glitching I could always say he came from The Void/Chaos Itself, but XV isn't part of Fabula Nova Crystallis anymore so there's no Etro to justify that. I could say he's, like, Bayonetta's brother who was thrown into a baby realm gate a la Fire Emblem Fates, but again none of this is canon.

@ Square the Enix wtf this dude come from?!

If you give us Fallout 3, set in DC, and give us DLC in Pittsburgh and in Point Lookout, Maryland, would you mind telling me, Bethesda, what the hell happened to Baltimore?

Seriously. It's right there. It's, like... stand in the Republic of Dave and sneeze and you stand a good chance of hitting Baltimore's approximate location, so what happened to it? If you can write up a DLC that takes place in freaking Pittsburgh, and if you can put a DLC somewhere else in Maryland, why has no one even once mentioned anything to do with the existence or condition of Baltimore?

(I did create some world building for this, sort of- mostly making Baltimore so chemically and radiologically messed up that corpses that fall there never decay, so even by post apocalyptic standards it's an exclusion zone- but honestly, you can't set a game in DC and then tell us about eighteen small Virginia towns and the city of goddamn Pittsburgh and leave Baltimore out entirely.)

Rockville actually gets mentioned in Fallout 3. Admittedly, in the context of a Smiling Sparkly Clean Town With A Terrible Secret (Hint: It's Always Cannibalism) resident saying that her town beats Rockville every year in the Best Town In The USA contest, but they do mention Rockville!

[personal profile] aaaaaaaagh_sky 2018-01-30 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorta? The Bethesda Ruins is a location in Fallout 3 that's based loosely on Bethesda Softworks' original location. It's two sets of offices and the Bethesda Metro tunnels.

Also, I did some poking through Fallout 3 terminal text and found one mention of pre-war Baltimore in one entry in a computer terminal in Our Lady of Hope Hospital. Someone who was hit by acid and steam in an on-the-job accident was 'flown to Hopkins in Baltimore for specialist care'. So the city existed, once; that's all we have to go on.

Oooh there's a video game level that's based on DC area Metro?!

...I got too many video games to play, lol

[personal profile] aaaaaaaagh_sky 2018-01-30 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
FO3 uses Metro stations as a major way of getting from one area of DC to another as a means of avoiding having to load the whole city into memory at once. There are some places you can't get to unless you go down into the Metro and make your way through the tunnels. None of the trains work except for one train in the Broken Steel expansion, which only goes to the Fallout universe version of Andrews Air Force Base, but you often find wrecked train cars down there. Several stations have been turned into residences and bases of operations.

Mind you, there are also giant ants, people who decorate their homes with other people's body parts, and roaches the size of human babies, but it's post-nuclear-apocalypse so that's par for the course as far as mass transit systems go.

Izana: Mostly I'd just like more info on when/if season 03 is going to happen. Last rumor was that it was this year, but I've heard nothing since. With how the first two seasons went, and the amout of manga left, I do know this would be the last season if they keep with the source material.

Ahsoka: Hello, SIEGE OF MANDALORE?!?!?! Also, how about a mention in a movie? Ahsoka deserves her own comic series or another novel too. I'd like to know how she helped in the early days of the rebellion as well. Her book hinted that she acted more as a coordinator between factions, but then SWR has her giving orders to Hera. (I personally like her being uncomfortable with taking a leading role given how well that worked for the Jedi in the Clone Wars.)

Danny: OK, is K'un Lun in another dimension or just lost in snow storms? Also, are there other heavenly cities, like in the comics? And please, either stick with updating the Hand to a more modern organization or stop using them.

Sabine: Some source book about Mandalorian culture would be nice, thanks. I used to want to know what happened at the academy, but then I got that answered and now I don't think I want to know. o_O

ETA: What I'd really like to know with Sabine is if armor colors have any meaning in the new Mandalorian culture. Her choices of color could be damned fascinating and I am likely to just come up with my own reasons, tbh.

Hank: Um...parents?

Tybalt: What is up with his sister and the Court in London? Are they still there in modern time?

Scrapper: Some indication of how long she was on Sakaar? And why was it so hard to name her in the movie?

The only thing I'd like to know that I haven't firmly decided on myself is how Hera got the Ghost. And mostly I'd like to know because I have some ideas, but I also feel like it's the kind of thing that's going to make it into canon somehow, if not in Rebels then in some comic or book or other random thing. So I just know as soon as I decide on something, I'll be contradicted.

There are also a lot of General Hera interactions like to see, like Hera-Luke or Hera-Poe. But she is dropping into the comics and things like that, so. Unfortunately for Kanan I'm figuring he won't be around at that point :(

I doubt we’re ever going to get a canon answer to that (though it would make a good Forces of Destiny story). But with Rebels ending soon I’m happy to just make something up.
