ACK!
Why was there no Happy Hour thing put up on Monday?
...
Oh right, I was on an airplane for a chunk of the afternoon.
Dang it all.

Right then.
First things first: Updates.

1) Apps are open for another 3 days.
So please to be taking advantage of that, if you're feeling saucy.

2) We are making headway on Tag Fest, so thank you once again for being patient.

3) Are folks still having issues with the Main Comm page not reliably loading?

And now:
Happy Hour!
Shifts this week include:

Today!...or what's left of it.
Tomorrow!
Friday!
Saturday!
Sunday!

First to claim, first to 'tend.
Have at!

Main comm loads about 30% of the time for me. And never while I’m on my phone.

I can fix it. The comm won’t look exactly the same, but the problem is DW not loading custom CSS properly. Modifying a provided style will eliminate the issue entirely.

I've noticed this. Like if I tell the site to load in my style or in the light style, the page loads fine in those styles. We just lose all the nifty sidebar links.

Cool. I’ll see what I can come up with.

Keeping the metadata will be easy. Just a matter of copy and paste

Since CSS is the problem, I've eliminated all of it, including any inline code. Since DW shows no intention of fixing this issue, it's safest to just go with code we know they can parse. It does remove some of the fancier elements, and makes it impossible to hide others, but it's the safer option. But with the lack of CSS, it does leave room for a header. I've made a simple one fro demo purposes, but it can easily be changed. Suggested dimensions are 1920 x 250. The current image is hosted on Google, so it will probably outlive us all. I moved it to imgur, since apparently making any tweaks to the layout breaks the image.

The mockup is a free account, so I don't have room to add all of the tags in the link bar. But that's a matter of copy and paste, just like the rest of the stylesheet.

The layout is easily portable to other comms, so if the security office or infirmary want matching layouts, the whole thing just needs to be copied over, with the accent colour changed. I don't know why the userpic border disappears when I move the sidebar over to the left, but I blame that on Dreamwidth being increasingly buggy and weird as the devs leave this site to slowly die.

I can put together an instructional page for porting this over to other journals if this is the one you want. For porting it to other journals, the process will involve only one minor tweak to change the colours for each comm, so they all match one another.

This is clean and pretty. Good job.

Thanks! I know it's not as flashy as the current one, but I did what I can with straight up HTML.

I'll put together a page that will walk people through installing it, in case satellite communities also want to be able to match the theme as well.

As long as the dimensions are big enough for a 1080p screen it should work. If it needs to be enlarged to fit, I can do that without too much of a loss in quality. It it’s too small, it will just look weird on most modern screens.

Here's the page to walk anyone through using this layout. Since it's all done with DW's built-in customiser, everything has to be copied over individually. Otherwise, we'd likely just run into the same problem again sooner or later. The whole thing should take about 15 minutes to port over.

It spreads the text out A LOT on mobile and can't be zoomed out, which I don't like at all. I have a screenshot but I'm not sure how to upload it from mobile.

Keeping the view compact and exactly as it appears on desktop requires CSS, which is what needs to be eliminated if we want the community to load. Since DW shows no intent to fix the issue, eliminating the CSS is the safest way to redo the layout.

It looks like DW has a mobile site, which...while no where near as pretty, might load better regardless of the community style in use.

By special request, I've added the Kingdom Hospital plot to the bar's memories, under the title Thy Kingdom Come.

*wince* There's 138. I can go back and add "Plot -" to all the entries.

That'd be great! But it's likely a one-person job, just so we don't get confused and trip over each other. I'll get to it later tonight. Thanks!

I actually haven't been addressing the plot tags in the spreadsheet for Tag Fest. I'll go back and do that soon.

Okay, I've added all Plot - Thy Kingdom Come to all the Thy Kingdom Come entries. They're saved under both titles because Dreamwidth is stupid and doesn't allow me to simply edit the tags without deleting the memories to begin with. *huffs*

You should be able to delete on memory in favor of another.
milliways_mods: (Default)

[personal profile] milliways_mods 2018-02-09 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
And I think we're working at cross purposes here.
You you edit a memory by deleting the name you don't want from that entry. When all of the mentions of that name are gone, the memory tag will disappear.

So what needs to happen is that every entry with BOTH tags, needs to have the incorrect one removed.

That's a lot of work. I'll get to it later tonight, but it might take me a couple of days.

Okay. Deleting just the one tag wasn't working, so I had to delete the entire entry--yeah, all 130 of them--and add them under the correct memory tag: Plot - Thy Kingdom Come. Some of them got lost in translation, but after several hours' work, the rest are added! Now for the rest of Tag Fest...
