Thursday DE

I had a dream last night about acquiring a fully-furnished house full of strange and beautiful antiques. It came with an organ, a clean basement that didn't smell at all moldy, a calico cat, a budgie, five angora rabbits, a tame deer and her tame baby, and I'm like 90% sure no ghosts. The decorating style was not quite to my taste, though. Not everything needs to be draped with giant burgundy curtains.

Which leads me to today's DE question: Tell us about your character's dream house. Where is it? What's in it? How did they get it?

The Ghost is all Hera needs as a 'dream house.' She even at one point says that if she's going to die, she'd rather be on it when she does. It's her beloved Corellian VCX-100 freighter, which she has principally lived in since she was around 17 years old, and she has no plans to leave it anytime soon. How she got it… is a good question that I'm kind of afraid to make up an answer for, in case I end up getting a canon one somehow. I'd originally sort of envisioned it as an older model ship on the brink of total disrepair that she acquired at a very cheap price and worked with Chopper to restore. But the reaction its mention in Solo gets makes me think it must have been an impressive ship at the time Hera would have gotten it, so now I'm leaning more toward her winning it in some kind of piloting bet.

Kanan never really envisioned living in a house of his own when he was in the Jedi Temple, nor having a permanent home while he was on the run. He's also pretty happy to stay on the Ghost. Though I think unlike Hera, who really chose to leave her home and lead a very uprooted life, Kanan was more coerced into it, and he does somewhat nurture a vision of a life after the Empire, that could include a more settled home. He doesn't really think of it in terms of the house itself or anything that comes with it, but rather as just a safe and peaceful space.

Tess could happily live in a shack on a beach somewhere. Like, she'd seriously thrive being stranded on a deserted island.

Rose would like a nice house like she had with her parents. Also, she pictures something along the lines of the Barbie dreamhouse. I have no idea how she gets it.

Kylo... is good wherever he is. He doesn't need much and he doesn't think he'll ever really settle down.

Creed likes big log cabins, with lots of room inside and whatever amenities he wants. Which are more modern than match the actual house itself. He builds them on his own.

The house he has now: he owns it, and nobody’s going to kick him out of it unexpectedly.

Baze's dream house is the Temple of the Kyber, and we all know what happened to that. He and Chirrut have had the bar recreate their rooms from the temple as well as their training hall, but it's not quite the same.

Hawkeye hasn't given this question a lot of thought. She'd love a yard for her dog, but she also wants to live close to work, and there are no affordable houses with yards near Eastern Command. Other than those dreams, she has no thoughts about housing.

Ellen doesn't really understand the concept of dream houses. Growing up there was only one place to live, and on the surface she got a house for saving a man's life, and... really, choosing the place where one lives does not occur to her. Although 'a Vault room with minimal buzzing from the light system and ventilation ducts that either don't clank or clank in a rhythmic fashion so they don't disturb you trying to sleep' might be considered where she wanted to live growing up.

Zanarian Fairy housing consists of a wooden almost birdhouse like structure that looks to me to only have enough room to curl up and sleep in. These are usually high up in a tree. Other than sleeping quarters, all other living space looks like it's communal. More important fairies have a sort of grotto or walled garden that serves as either an office or a parlor for entertaining larger, non-flying guests, but sleeping quarters will still be tucked away in some high up corner. Fairy Fixit's rented Milliways room is arranged this way, since a human sized room is already way bigger than what she needs for sleeping quarters. It makes her feel important, so it already is a dream house in a weird way.

Eowyn's dream house is Meduseld, the <a href="https://middleeartharchitectures.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/01.jpg>Golden Hall</a> of Edoras. If she could rule by Eomer's side after Theoden dies, she would be perfectly content. Alec hasn't ever really thought about a dream house. The Institute is his home for the foreseeable future, and if he were to go back to Idris, the Clave would provide him with lodging, so...he'd have everything he needed. (When he starts to go through canon, this answer will change to "wherever Magnus lives.") Orpheus has kind of given up on the idea of having a home. He inhabits spaces, but he doesn't think much about what's in them or what they look like. His dream house would be somewhere that felt like a home.

Enjolras honestly doesn't care. It would keep out the rain? IT WOULD BE IN PARIS IN A FREE AND JUST REPUBLIC, all the other details are completely negotiable. Including keeping out the rain, honestly, except that everyone ought to have the right to decent housing etc under the ideal Republic.

Cosette, on the other hand, has so many ideas. A little cozy house! Just the right size for her and Marius and her father and a servant and room to add in a nursery -- and in the city, of course (and the city is Paris, of course, because she's a Victor Hugo character) but with a lovely large garden to tend, so there are always green growing things and her father can keep busy and the dog can run around -- and would you like to hear her ideas for decorating it? She has so many ideas for that! I only half know what those ideas are, because I have only a vague idea of what early 1830s interior decoration fashion was like, but it's very cute and dainty but slightly old-fashioned within that. Lots of light and color and little decorative touches. She's the kind of person who would get everything just how she wanted it, and look around her with deep satisfaction, and immediately start planning how to tweak things again. (Luckily, neither Marius nor Valjean is going to argue with her about any of her decorating calls, anyhow.)

Thor... uh... you know, that's actually a really good question. Asgard's palace is the place he's always lived, and sort of assumes he always will live, but that's not actually his dream house, as such. Hmm.

...I don't think this is the kind of thing he's ever really articulated to himself, but I think Thor would love to have a sort of vacation cottage place on a clifftop. (Of course on a clifftop.) The kind of place that's a casual little place if you're Asgardian royalty, but actually costs a mint and has a full kitchen and sauna and hot tub and at least one caretaker and sleeps fifteen of your closest friends (thirty-plus if they're friendly), and is surrounded by nature but also has fancy Asgardian skiffs so you can go bar-hopping in a nearby city if you want.

Kazul is pretty well satisfied with her own caverns, really. She moved up at the end of the first book of her canon from her original caverns to the larger set alloted to the King of Dragons when she was crowned, but she seems pretty pleased about the shift -- more storage room! I think she cares less about the physical space (so long as it's large enough) than about being able to clutter it up with all the stuff she wants and hold dinner parties there and stuff. And she likes it to have an auxiliary set of human-sized rooms for a princess, for the rare points in life when she wants to have one of those.

Doctor Dinosaur's dream house is MADE OF CRYSTALS. SO MANY CRYSTALS!!! And it contains all kinds of scientific equipment and heavy explosives and duct tape!!! And absolutely no mammals, because he will have destroyed them all and he can frolic joyously through the mammal-free world he has brought about. Also, did I mention the crystals?

(However, I want a house with a calico cat, a budgie, five angora rabbits, and a tame deer and her tame baby, and a clean basement that doesn't smell at all moldy!! I admit that most of the burgundy curtains would come down in short order, though. We could maybe keep one Burgundy Curtain Room I suppose.)
configuration_birdwatcher: Bastion walking across a log through a sunbeam in a forest. (forest)

[personal profile] configuration_birdwatcher 2018-07-06 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm actually kind of stumped because Bastion has never particularly wanted or needed a house before; they didn't have any personal possessions to keep in it until very recently, and they operate fine at the normal winter or summer temperatures of central Europe and are pretty thoroughly waterproof so rain isn't a problem either. Sheltering in an abandoned building was good enough for dealing with especially bad weather when they lived in the Black Forest, and Ganymede was affected well before Bastion was.

They'd be fine living anywhere that doesn't actively cause problems for them, really. That does exclude some places that are perfectly fine for humans to live in, on the basis of things like 'the doorways are too small'. Also, post-reactivation, first they lived in the middle of nowhere with no other people around and now they live in Watchpoint: Gibraltar, which has far more space than the single-digit number of Overwatch members in it can actually use. They haven't really had the problem of needing a private space for the purpose of guaranteeing solitude/getting away from other people.
