Friday DE: Physicality

I am a tall. I tend to be about a half a head or more above the crowd. Because of this, I notice other tall people right away and even gauge my height compared to them; it's nearly unconscious and can even make me feel shorter if they seem close to my height or taller.

Does your character do anything similar as they go about their life? It doesn't have to be height, it can be anything.

Pretty standard observations Hera makes when she enters a place:
- Number of other non-humans
- Any other Twi'leks
- Number of Stormtroopers or other Imperials, or
- Any additional law enforcement

When entering a place, Kanan now generally always uses the Force to get a sense of the room, and keeps an eye out for exits, and for good defensible positions. And like Hera, he also keeps an eye out for Imperials.

And they've both learned how to assess a room for surveillance tech. Thanks Zaluna!

X steps into a room and has immediately computed all the ways that she'd kill everyone in there. It sucks. I mean sometimes it's useful, but it still sucks. She also notes exits, surveillance tech, trouble spots, and anyone who looks like they need to not be alone. Then she tries to fix it all!

Thrawn makes a note of all the different representative species in a place, then tries to separate those species out into who comes from which planet or system, then starts calculating how he can leverage all of that knowledge into completing whatever objective he has, or laying down the groundwork for what he'll have to do in the future. He also pays attention to any displayed artwork, architectural quirks, and any other decorations that have been put up, as well as what music might be playing, and what types of dancing might be occurring. Whee culture (as a tool to control other people's reactions!!!)!

Sombra's got all the hidey-holes and places not covered by cameras mapped out before she enters a room! She's already got her fingers in any and every electronic system she can find, and she can find them all. Then she looks for people who would be fun to talk to! Or mess with! Or dangerous!

Ysalwen takes immediate note of how many humans are around, how drunk they are, and how relatively rich anyone who is drunk looks. She also scans for other elves, other non-humans, and then people she knows. Liranan is keeping a nose out for people they know, and also for trouble. Exits and how best to reach each of them are something they both consider, too.

I play a lot of fighters and former fighters, also those aware of class. One last edit

Cassian: Exits, sight lines-covers surveillance, Imperials, fighters-what weapons, those clearly under the influence-he spends a lot of time walking into cantinas, droids, other species-that's kind of mixed in with everything else since different species get other categories as do types of droids and uniforms. As an example: Wookiee-are they free, if they're enslaved, is there a master nearby. When he's outside, he's always aware of how the weather would be for flying. Where's the nearest spaceport and ship that could get him off planet. Also all that combines into, how does he carry himself-what will help him blend in the most?

Quentin: He looks around for other Fae-testing the air for magic and looking for the telltale glimpse of anyone using illusions, where are the exits, who has weapons, around Fae-what races, their clothing, what ranks are there, the knowe-what's it telling him?

Charles-He actually gets a feeling for a space first from the feeling of the minds-general mood, anyone that sticks out due to being in pain or very happy, mutants. Then he actually looks around to see who's there. Now a major part of any entrance is how easily can he move through it with his chair, when he entered, how many people noticed his chair.

Sameth-Can he touch the Charter? Is there anything Dead nearby? Then it goes into, anyone with Charter Marks, weapons, technology, surcoats and other symbols that he can identify

Moist-exits, fastest transportation, quality of the clothing, who has money, what role will help him blend in, who's not paying attention, what's shiny

William: Exits, weapons especially guns, clothing-who looks like they're wearing something similar to him, he's very aware of class which for him is communicated through clothing, then he gets into books. What are people reading?

Will S.-weapons, clothing-that speaks to rank, exits, looking up and seeing what's above. After living in Sherwood, he's always aware of the possibilities of above, thinking in terms of space to use sword, knife or bow

Demeter-Who's alive, who's dead. She listens to the land which is why her feet are always bare.

Ivan-another that checks out weapons, clothing-speaks to rank, taste, so much stuff and his mother taught him to pay attention to it

Tumnus-how cold is it, the various races around

Wilford is constantly mindful of how people can be useful, whether it's because they're easily manipulated, or possess certain skills or talents.

Also, things moving that shouldn't be moving. He's very aware of that.
genarti: Combeferre and Enjolras in the Cafe Musain. ([les mis] guide and chief)

(Fistbump, fellow tall! I do the same thing. Also, in any kind of rows-of-seats situation, I automatically look for seats with either no one or another tall person sitting in the row or two behind.)

Enjolras notices people who seem to be watching him, or people who seem to be on edge or unduly monitoring the people around them. People, in other words, who might possibly be policemen or police informants or similar. (Or muggers or something, but that concerns him less.) Even after all this time at Milliways, that's still true, and would be even if Javert hadn't been around for a significant amount of that time; it's just very ingrained. To a lesser extent, he notices exits, defensibility, etc, but that comes second.

Thor automatically reads a room for power dynamics. Also, for who looks like they'd be fun to have a scrap with, but honestly, it's mostly for power dynamics. That's 100% instinctual at this point.

...Also, for if anything looks like a magically disguised Loki. I'm not saying he's perfect at spotting that one, but look, they had more than enough centuries of being kids pranking each other for it to be habit anyway.

Cosette... I'm not sure. Hmm. I mean, she assesses people by social class and so forth, that's habit for most people in her society, but it's really only noticeable at Milliways because so few people have the sartorial cues she's used to for that; it's the kind of thing where you don't notice you're expecting certain signals until no one is giving any of them. Aside from that, I think she automatically looks for a) people who look like they could use alms or some other kind of help, and b) people who seem friendly or like they'd appreciate someone being friendly towards them.

Kazul, again, I'm not sure about. Especially in a room full of mostly humans and no other dragons.

Doctor Dinosaur looks for crystals, the annoying mammal robot, and science he should steal put to better use than the foolish mammals currently fumbling their forepaws around it.
