I think Wilford's is probably pretty obvious on the surface, but I can't actually claim credit for it. There was a fairly viral post where someone had called him a cotton candy psychopath, and I was like yeah. Legit.

This is something she repeats a lot in canon, every time the boys interact physically. I like to think before the apocalypse, Dodger was a BNF somewhere.

Mark justmark

I wanted to do the same thing with Mark, and have his username be something he says a lot in canon. But his repeated phrase is "whut?" and that didn't make a very good username.

Xephos spaceman_xephos

It's just his name. In Shadow of Israphel, everyone calls him the Spaceman, and someone had already taken Xephos as a username, so this is what he got.

Also, this is certainly not to say the journal names are bad. It's just funny. Like I remember reading an EP that I thought was from Cassian but was really by Sam Wilson because it mentioned flying and missions and probably food.

Sahaal's is pretty straightforward. He's the heir to the leadership of the Eighth Legion, and he's exiled. The only real double meaning is that he's both exiled from his Legion, and his universe (mostly).

Plus, it sounds nice to say in my particular English dialect.

I like using lines from canon as usernames wherever possible, so:

Steve: "I'm just a kid from Brooklyn." akidfrombrooklyn was taken, so thekidfrombrooklyn he became.

Sherlock: "Sherlock Holmes is a great man...and someday, if we're very, very lucky, he mightbeagoodone.

Dipper and Mabel: "Awkward sibling hug?" "Awkward sibling hug." They hug, and both say, pat_pat.

This comes from a line in the pilot, when Ezra tells Kanan he thought the Empire wiped out all the Jedi and Kanan answers, "Not all of us." Which very much goes to his position of being one of the last remaining part-of-the-old-Jedi-Order Jedi.

Though in retrospect it does sound very #notalljedi


Hera - for_everyone

This is actually from the book A New Dawn, which especially in retrospect may be my favorite portrayal of Hera, including much of the actual Rebels series. When the villain Hera and Kanan have been pursuing demands to know who they're working for in that characteristic villain-y way, Hera answers, "I'm working for everyone." Which is very much her ethos, including in the show - she left Ryloth and a fight for her home specifically to fight for the galaxy as a whole, and that dedication has really come to define her.

'...And he's holding a cat." Is a line said about Cecil by another character, and it is one of the most bad-ass moments in the entire show. Ugh, now I need to listen to that episode again (old oak door, both parts, omg that episode).

I will admit that it wasn't my first choice, but every version of 'dear listeners' and 'welcome to Night Vale' and the like are taken - Cecil is popular.

Ahsoka: jedi_interrupted because she was well on the way to becoming a great jedi before she was framed for a terrorist bombing of the Jedi Temple and kicked out of the Order.

Sabine: explosive_artist was her character descriptor in a "meet the characters" promo Star Wars Rebels did before the show even aired. As soon as I saw her I knew she would be a character I'd love and so grabbed the handle. The only other character descriptor I remember is Kanan's which was cowboy jedi.

Viv Vision is dreamingofelectricsheep for the Philip K Dick nod (Bladerunner/Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) and this comic panel.

Hank is no_more_hiding is a canon quote directed at him by Raven/Mystique and his main character challenge, to live as his mutant self without hiding.

Sam Wilson is notapilot , from his like "I never said I was a pilot."

Danny is touched_by_fire from a prophecy/story Lei-Kung (his adoptive father/trainer) told him about how Danny was found and why he chose Danny for the Iron Fist training--“A child, touched by fire, delivered from heaven, to be our greatest warrior. Destined for victory.” --which was basically the plane crashing onto the mountain.

Tybalt is shadowandsnark because he is the best snarker of canon and travels via the shadow roads, which means he teleports from shadow to shadow.

New, possible pups are:
The Disreputable Dog (Garth Nix's Old Kingdom) is going to be dog_walker because it's a word joke and she loves puns and word play. 'Dog' as that's her current name and shape, walker as that is the name of the bell of power she's connected to, Kibeth, called the Walker for it commands movement.

Jessica Drew will be snarky_spider because with all the new spiders in the world, and the recent cross overs with them, she started calling them by Spice Girl names. Silk is Baby Spider, Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider is Posh Spider, Spider-Girl (Anya Corazon) is Sporty Spider, and Jess is Snarky Spider because she holds the snark. (Don't tell her, but she's really Mamma Spider cause she's mentoring all these girls.)

If you were curious, Black Widow is Scary Spider (no, Natasha wasn't involved with the Spider-verse cross over, but she's a friend of Jess), Peter Parker is Dorky Spider, and Miles Morales is Nerdy Spider.

I may have put too much thought into this.

Enzo: His catchphrase in canon is "Alphanumeric!" (ReBootese for "awesome"), and back when I started, alphanumericenzo exceeded LiveJournal's 15-character limit (and was a bit unwieldy besides; an underscore would have helped but that's even longer), and I think alphanumeric by itself was taken, so I decided on a1enzo as shorthand. (I'm actually thinking of changing it to paragon_enzo after all this time, although it would be funnier if Matrix were still around regularly and hadn't changed his from renegade_enzo.)

Zecora: bwbw_aabb represents her stripes and her rhyme scheme. :-)

Yrael's mogget_cat journal name is in reference to his most commonly-used name and form in canon. A white cat, called Mogget.

Sunshine's sunbaked_baker journal name references her purpose as a baker, and that she gains her strength from the sun.

Rumor has_it. "Rumor has it..." I couldn't not.

Zelgadis' chime_ra_tilt journal name is probably the one of mine with the most facets to it. He is a chimera, and that's the subject most likely to make him tilt out. Also, his most powerful spell is called the Ra Tilt. And the person who turned him into a chimera has a staff that chimes very distinctly when it strikes the ground. If he heard that chime again, it would likely lead to an instant Ra Tilt.

It's a play on the canonical nomenclature for their variable forms, Configuration: Recon, Configuration: Sentry and Configuration: Tank. I wanted something that juxtaposed the sort of clinical language associated with robots with their actual interests. Which are mostly birds, and nature and animals more generally. (Thinking of a clever username was the final push I needed to app them. Once I make a journal I'm pretty serious about the muse, and if I think of a good name I generally make the journal the instant I can get to a computer so that no one else can take it.)

Aradia death_fangirl: I thought it was funny when Terezi called her a death fangirl (to be precise, a D34TH F4NG1RL) in canon, the first time they saw each other after Aradia was resurrected and Aradia was very enthusiastic about the idea of having a funeral for the trolls who had died on the meteor.

Dr Thurlow doctorscaryteeth: They have fangs and a doctorate. That's basically it.

Cirava moisturewave_aesthetic: This is one of the bullet points from their Troll Call card. I'm fond of using canon dialogue, narration, or titles as the basis for a username and nothing else said to, by, or about them was as iconic as that. I was surprised it fit in the DW character limit, especially since I had to add an underscore because the version without one was taken.

Yamato's (angry_friendship_wolf) is fairly self-explanatory: He's generally angry and gruff, he's the bearer of the Crest of Friendship, and he tends to be accompanied by wolf imagery/has a generally lupine nature, along with the Crest of Friendship being the governing Crest for Beast Digimon.

Eden's (arkadia) is actually a holdover from when I first apped him ages ago: That version of Eden was a member of Ursus (before it was revealed what each Union was like), and so 'arkadia' was a pun based on both that and the fact that Daybreak Town, as it first appears, seems to be an unspoiled paradise -- 'unspoiled' because we know that the Keyblade War, which very much spoils it, is coming. So naming his journal after Αρκάδια, the Greek idea of an unspoiled, idyllic paradise, which in turn was named after a mythical figure associated heavily with bears, seemed fitting. This is also the logic behind his name: He's named after the Garden of Eden, another idea of a paradise that's eventually lost.

manythorned refers to Rose having so many personalities, or thorns.

firstorderknight Kylo is both for the First Order and a Knight of Ren.

oldmancreed is a blatant play on Old Man Logan.

sticktothemission was settled upon after trying to snag many, many other QuotesAsJournalNames for Gabriel/Reaper. deadmanwalking (first choice iirc), fromtheshadows, notapsychopath, and more were all taken. I also wanted something that could reflect the ethos of both Gabe and Reaper. "Stick to the mission," is something Reaper specifically says to Sombra when he's at his most professional.

In light of Gabriel's actions during Retribution, this is incredibly ironic now. It's implied by McCree's lines that Gabe very much would stick to his plans. Not doing so there is one of the contributing factors for why everything started to go to shit with Overwatch.

Khadgar's name means 'trust' in Dwarven. I was originally going to go with trustthearchmage or trust_thearchmage or trust_the_archmage, but I didn't care for the way they looked and ended up with archmagetrust

I'm listing a few I've retired but like the name choices.

will_scarlett was my first character and is his name. At that point I didn't know that usernames could have more meanings to them.

wheatencrown is because Demeter's sometimes shown wearing a crown of wheat.

agloriousthing who I don't play anymore but is still one of my favorite characters is because the Pirate King's main son is that its a glorious thing to be a pirate king.

makesthing is from a canon quote where Sameth tells Lirael that all he really can do is make things.

not_his_pa is because William throughout canon defines himself against his father.

morethanprops, the idea of using props like clothing to distract people is a large part of how Moist cons people but not everything. This isn't exactly what I originally wanted, I think I was aiming for something to do with furniture but I'm happy with this.

balancingminds Charles sees himself as trying to create a balance in terms of the lives of mutants and his mental health and how his telepathy works is connected to balance. This is one of my favorite usernames because it says so much.

friend_of_lucy is another one that's pretty self explanatory that works very well. This came from chat when I was stuck on Tumnus' usernames.

janebecomes is a play on the movie canon Becoming Jane and a name that wasn't taken.

vorpatril is another that's simply, its his last name and all the variations of Ivan, you idiot were taken. It works as his last name defines a lot about him.

heatherandsteel is the smell of Quentin's magic and that's one of those details that matters a lot in canon. I was surprised no one had taken this.

childofrebellion is because Cassian says that he's been fighting since he was six.

Amascut gets death_gone_mad because well, she is a Death related goddess -- originally the Judge of the Dead, but she has gone a tad bit nutty. Also a Dr. Who quote.

fairy_fixit is Fairy Fixit, a fairy who fixes things.

→ Ben Wade (almosthonorable) : This basically encapsulates Ben. He describes himself as "rotten as hell," but he operates in accordance to a certain code of honor. It just happens to be, you know, the outlaw variety.

→ Raylan Givens (itwasjustified) : Within all the shades of gray that color Justified, Raylan keeps an "It was justified" response in his back pocket. He usually plays that particular card after shooting yet another suspect.

→ Kate Warner (justdidntseeit) : Kate continues to carry a lot of guilt about her estranged relationship with her younger sister, Marie. Kate blames herself to an extreme degree for Marie's involvement with terrorist organization Second Wave; after their mother died, Kate was blind to how withdrawn and radicalized Marie had become.

→ Claire Temple (nocturnalmedicine) : This is a play on Claire's "Night Nurse" persona, and kind of a wink-wink, nudge-nudge pun on specialty language, like internal medicine. Have I mentioned I'm a total dork?

It's also Yusuke himself, given how easily he gets lost in his work or aesthetic details in general.

irish_vagabond is something that I saw in an early press release about Preacher. It was as if they didn't want to spoil Cassidy's character by using the other v-word, vampire. I would probably change it now to something more humorous and idiosyncratic (plonkers_and_gobshites comes to mind), but being a vagabond, it's not wrong, he is one.

lazy_but_loyal is how Eric Northman affectionately described Pam to someone else. I'm not 100% sure if she knows that he said it. But it's very her.

gods_that_haunt_me is part of a quote from Floki, referencing the "darker gods," not necessarily of a pantheon but the metaphorical ones that may or may not be the reason why Floki is the way he is in his head.
