WHOOPS IT'S THURSDAY ISN'T IT

Is there a big defining “where were you when ______ happened” historical moment in your character’s setting? Was it during their lifetime? Where were they?

For both Sabine and Ahsoka, it would be where were you when Order 66, or the Emperor took power.
Funny enough, both Sabine and Ahsoka were in Mandalorian space, though the details are vague.

Later, for Sabine at least, there's "Where were you when the battle of Yavin happened?" and I'd say Sabine was at Yavin with Hera, although they could've been onboard the Ghost. Ahsoka may or may not have been on Malacor.

For Sam and Danny: Where were you when the chitauri attacked New York? Sam was likely scrambling with the National Guard in Washington DC. Danny was in K'un Lun and knew nothing about it.

For Hank: Where were you during the Cuban Missile crisis? It's a secret, but right there at the Bay of Pigs and fighting to prevent nuclear war.

There is!

Only one person remembers it.

That person is not Cecil.

...

He was in his sound booth, broadcasting.

I guess Emcee's would be when the Nazis came to power. He was most likely drinking, high on drugs, having sex, or sleeping.

For Cassidy you can pick any historical moment between around 1900 and 2016. And he would most likely have been doing the same things Emcee was doing.

For Pam, there was the Great Revelation in 2006, when vampires worldwide were revealed to be real. Pam and Eric were still running a video rental store in Shreveport, so it's not like anything exciting happened. They just went on with their business and didn't feel any huge need to announce their vampire-ness like mainstreamers.

Where was Floki when the vikings first set foot on English soil? Right there! He was part of the invasion of Lindisfarne in 793 and he had a very good time.

Much more importantly, Floki was a) right there when Iceland was discovered AD 871 +/-2 and b) the one doing the discovering and the first settlement. History books know him as Hrafna-Floki. The place in the show is all wrong, and its history is all made of rubber bands anyway, time-wise, but along those lines, I can claim to have been to his house -- and so can many tourists who have been to Reykjavik more than superficially.

Depends on where you are in the Capital Wasteland; the society there's a little fragmented. For the Vault 101 residents it'd be 'where were you when Doctor Park opened the Vault and escaped and a bunch of people got shot', or possibly 'where were you when the young people threw a revolt and the Overseer wound up stepping down'. Ellen was busy trying to escape with the first one, and got called in to put things right after the second had happened. For the Brotherhood, and for the Enclave survivors, it'd be 'where were you when Raven Rock exploded/President Eden killed himself', or possibly 'where were you when the ORBITAL DEATH STRIKE blew the Enclave mobile headquarters off the map forever', and both times Ellen was right there making it happen. For the folks in Rivet City and a lot of the DC ruins it'd be 'where were you when the giant robot stomped through the streets shouting about Communism', because that was the lead-up to water being distributed throughout the Wasteland again, and there... well, Ellen was right behind the anti-communist giant robot.

There are actually a number of people in the Commonwealth, and at least one person in the Capital Wasteland, for whom the question is 'where were you when the bombs fell?'. These people are ghouls, as it happens; most of them were trying to hide in one way or another. That was in 2077, though. Ellen's ancestors hadn't been born yet.
configuration_birdwatcher: A red-eyed Omnic Crisis Bastion unit looking downwards across the frame, alarmed. (omnic crisis: wait what)

I suppose it'd be when the Omnic Crisis either started or ended. Probably a more specific in-universe event than "the end of the Crisis"; the start is pretty well-defined but I've written it as being somewhat ambiguous in-universe when exactly the Crisis ended in the form of "something important happened in 2051 but there were still various lower-stakes omnic-human conflicts continuing until 2056" because the creators have been vague and unclear about the dates out-of-universe.

A third one would probably be the formation of Overwatch but I don't know when their presence was announced; as of the flashback sequence in Honour and Glory (which I figure is 2051, it's the battle Bastion was supposed to be present for) it's shrouded in mystery and Reinhardt calls it a 'secret organization'.

Bastion hadn't been built yet for the first one, for obvious reasons, and was powered down for pretty much any date you can give for the second except maybe the very earliest.

I suppose there are two in Fairy Fixit's life.

  1. The humans rediscover runecrafting and start becoming the dominant species in Gielinor - canon recently became confusing about when this happened or if it actually did happen, but anyhow that *handwavy* happened a bit after she graduated from college and started working as a teleporter engineer. But, that was on Gielinor's moon and it wasn't so much a thing there until much aftewards. She probably rescued a few stranded human wizards in those first few years after they discovered that teleportation was a thing they could do.

  2. SPOILER The god Guthix died and his anti-god barrier around the planet falls. Again, she was on the moon, working. All of a sudden she was intensely sad for some reason she didn't understand, and then without warning or explanation she understood and felt a compulsion to forget Guthix. Understanding why made her angry that her emotions and probably those of the rest of the fairies were being manipulated, even though that manipulation was unintentional. And she couldn't even tell if the anger was her own; the "understanding" that caused it wasn't.

She needed a few days away from work afterwards. So did nearly everyone else, unfortunately.

Amascut has been around for too long, and even participated in a few of those moments. Canon is very quiet about where she was around the time that second event mentioned above or if she's even alive at all. Her brother Icthlarin talks as though she is. Kanan's two major events like this in his lifetime would be the start of the Clone Wars, and their end with Order 66. At the start of the Clone Wars, Kanan was still a youngling in the Jedi Temple. When Order 66 happened, Kanan was with his master on Kaller, when the Clone Troops they were fighting alongside suddenly turned on them.

Hera, similarly, saw the beginning and end of the Clone Wars. And then... the destruction of Alderaan, the Battle of Yavin, the Battle of Endor... it's a pretty eventful universe! She was very young at the start of the Clone Wars, but the Separatist invasion of Ryloth occurred very early. I imagine the end of the wars there actually being relatively quiet, with both the Separatists and the Republic withdrawing in a sort of calm-before-the-storm before the Imperial occupation rolled in.

As for the latter events... we'll see.

For the Nine Legions, it's - "Where were you during the Siege of Terra?" Given that it was the last battle of Horus's rebellion, and where the Legions failed to overthrow the Emperor of Mankind, where an individual legionary was, and if they were there, can be very important even ten thousand years later.

Sahaal was leading his Raptors through the urban fighting in the slums of the Petitioner's City, and later on, in the inner chambers of the Imperial Palace. Not the most prestigious actions, but still. He was there.

Probably "Where were you when Daemon's countdown commenced?" and he was in Mainframe, desperately trying to stop it.
