Friday DE: Feel Good, Inc.

I don't know if it's just me, but this week has been a challenge. So I ask for some good...

What is good in your and your character's lives? What do they or yourself like about themselves? What is something you've seen that made you laugh? Feel free to share any links or GIFs of cats or whatever gives you cheer.

ETA: I've been thinking of something fun to do for the muns this holiday season, like Anna's Advent posts last year...which I hope she does again this year.

Anyway, how do folks feel about doing a secret Santa holiday exchange? I'm thinking I could organize and the idea is basically give whatever you'd like; be it icons, fic, art, a filk song, a playlist, whatever. It just centered on the other person's interest/pup. If you like the idea, say so in your comment and I'll work out a sign up post if there's enough interest.

I've had no get-up-and-go since Thanksgiving. Getting everything ready for an event I'm running for the month of December has been tricky since I keep falling asleep in the middle of the day.

BUT! Tomorrow kicks off my favourite event of the year. The Yogscast host a charity fundraiser that runs for the month of December every year, and it's one of the most ridiculous things on the internet. Last year they raised over $5 million for the month, with about $1.5 million of that on their first day. I'm so hyped for this.

I'll post a link somewhere when their stuff goes live, in case anyone wants to do some Christmas shopping for nerds and also get a donation for charity at the same time. Last year, a $35 donation got you something absurd like 600 games and DLC.

I'm really hoping to see them break some records tomorrow. Kickoff day is always the highlight of my winter.

I've been steadily writing fic with some pauses. I've been much more social in terms of Pokemon because someone at my work is really into it. My job makes me happy though I'll be relieved to be through the process of finding out if I'll be doing it next semester. Next week is the first round of interviews and I'm hoping that they move fast enough that I can go into the winter holidays knowing. Though I might not find out until Wintersession or January.

Secret holiday exchange sounds like a lot of fun. Keep it simple and fun.

That reminds me too that in chat we discussed lots of random holiday things around Bar. Decorations, music, the kind of stuff that's easy to interact with if you want to or ignore if not. Like having the Yule Goat somewhere out back and things from holidays other than of Earth. A low stress way to have a good time over the holidays.

Oh! I'll have to set myself a reminder to set up the Yule Goat post!

Well, I finally took some time off after three years of working and living three hours away from New Orleans to actually visit the damned place. I didn't get to do all the things I had planned to do because Downtown NOLA traffic is a nightmare and there are parades for everything, but it did force me to explore other parts of the city. It was lovely, but you can tell that New Orleans wasn't built for cars. Thank goodness I hate big SUVs and trucks.

Thankfully I am not an anxious person so it was kind of fun watching people milling about, dealing with traffic, trying to get to hotels, shopping, and just looking for entertainment when I was in downtown and the French Quarter. I actually managed to do some holiday shopping and I am usually so terrible about it because I am the opposite of materialistic and hate gifts I can't eat or wear or use.

Oh, and the food was great too. :D
