Plague Plot - Details Within

A while ago, we were throwing around wintery-sort-of-plot-things in Crackchat, and it made me want to do something I've been considering for a while.

Exposition

For those who don't do a lot of threading with him, Wilford's world is a dangerous hellscape deathtrap disguised as a prosperous modern society. Characters who have spent a significant amount of time there have been vaccinated against some of the more deadly diseases that float around in the air over there, but some diseases can't be vaccinated against. There's just too wide of a variety of viruses that all cause similar symptoms and mutate too rapidly.

A few days before Christmas, Wilford is going to bring Michael into the bar for lunch, like any other day. Michael will have a cold-like illness called Slime Lung. It's a decently contagious virus that tends to run its course fairly quickly, assuming the person who catches it is 1, in good health, and 2, has built up immunities through exposure to similar viruses. This isn't going to be like IMDB Flu, where patrons will remain in the bar. Oh, no. Well, you can if you want, but this one can travel home with you. Infect your friends with the worst cold in the universe. Maybe one of your characters is from a world capable of developing a cure. Maybe it can kill off an NPC that's been bothering your character. The possibilities are endless!

Timeline and Opt-In

Patient Zero will enter the bar a few days before Christmas (the exact date depends on my ability to dig up some free time). From there, Slime Lung will spread through typical means. Interacting with someone is not a guarantee of getting infected, so if you do not want to get infected, threading with other characters who are is still on the table. As a courtesy, unless the player has indicated that they are going to get their character infected, please refrain from coughing or sneezing in their face. That's rude.

Posts containing Slime Lung should be titled Plague Plot. Any and all discussion of symptoms involving bodily fluids is to be contained within threads. Please do not contain graphic symptoms in the main body of your post. Given the name and nature of the disease, there will be more on this under the cut below. OOMs should contain appropriate warnings.

Due to the nature of the plot, there is no set ending. The plot will continue as long as people want to keep playing with it.

Symptoms and Info

Slime Lung is somewhere between a cold and pneumonia in terms of what it will do to a person. A healthy person with immunities to similar viruses might just have a particularly congested and miserable week. For others, the symptoms may become so severe as to require hospital treatment. Slime Lung is viral, so antibiotics will not help an infected person.

As the name suggests, the standout symptom is the sticky, thick slime-like-goop that builds up in your lungs. Headache, fever, chills, aches, and pains are also typical. Standard treatment includes lots of fluids and rest. Slime Lung is contagious as long as a person is displaying symptoms, with the viral load being contained primarily in the build-up within the lungs. Once the slime begins to clear, the person is no longer contagious.

Players are encouraged to take this illness home to their side of the door. Worlds which have advanced medical science are welcome to present any logical treatment that might fit your canon. Or if you're a supervillain, you can turn it into a bioweapon. That's cool too.

This probably isn't the Christmas plot most people were expecting, but honestly, what's more wintery than everyone spreading germs everywhere and getting everyone sick?
