Thursday DE

Your character is going on vacation. Where are they going and what do they pack?

This post is brought to you by my vacation, which I need to go pick for.

Spending around a season in the Shipwrecked expansion pack -- and then leaving promptly before the weather can turn to torrential rain, flooding accompanied by venomous mosquitoes, or baking heat and falling volcanic rocks -- is probably the closest thing you can get to a vacation in Don't Starve. Of course, that's if you go there on purpose, rather than arriving the way Wilson did in the trailer: by building a boat to escape the main island, getting sunk by a huge wave, and washing up on shore. It doesn't matter what you pack if it all ends up at the bottom of the sea.

However, the Seaworthy portal lets you cross between a regular and a Shipwrecked save slot (although it takes up both save slots and unless you mod the game you only get five in total, which is inconvenient). Since you still have to build a base from scratch, in that case Wilson would bring items that are hard to obtain in the early game like gold for the research machines and gears for useful structures like the icebox, and a few things you can't get at all in Shipwrecked like the Tam O'Shanter, Arguable Best Hat In The Game.

And there you go! A nice tropical vacation only occasionally interrupted by crocodile attacks and parrots that make fun of you.
