Monday DE: Food, Glorious Food

Oh God I haven't had an unbroken night's sleep since last Wednesday I am so freaking tired, guys. Just... so tired. So very tired.

Anyway.

Brought to you by my office's Stand Up To Cancer bake sale and my continuing obsession with Tim Horton's apple fritters...*

What is your character's favourite sweet treat and why? Is there a story behind it? What about your own? And please feel EXTREMELY free to post recipes.

*Other delicious apple-based pastries are available.

Amascut's is the Chocolate Bomb. The in-game recipe is way oversimplified and unrealistic, so have this one instead - Mint Choc Chip Bomb - which is the closest I have found ingredient-wise

Fairy Fixit is a fan of candied mango. The Zanaris fairies naturally have a sweettooth since their caloric needs are pretty high, and they have spells for making already naturally sweet thing tooth-rottingly sweet, so... anyway I think Fairy Fixit will greatly appreciate the rum that goes into this recipe - Rum-Spiked Roasted Caramelized Mango

As for myself, I am a cookie fiend. I like almost all cookies (except for peanut butter cookies, blegh) and I am greatly offended that people dare treat the oatmeal raisin like a deceitful devil. It's a lovely, very hearty, very healthy cookie!

Sunshine's is her own Bitter Chocolate Death, which based on the vague descriptions in canon I usually base on Chocolate Nemesis, a dense, rich, flourless dark chocolate cake that is an intense experience to eat.

All of Sunshine's recipes feel to some degree like she was creating them for herself, for her own palate, but none more so than Bitter Chocolate Death. In canon, when Sunshine believes she has two days to live, eating an entire pan of Bitter Chocolate Death by herself is one of the things listed on her bucket list. She can't finish it though, and Mel has to eat the last two pieces.

Waffles - you can make 'em simple, make 'em elaborate, make 'em sweet, make 'em savory... they're only limited by creativity and funding. Everyone loves waffles.

And yes, Klaus knows just about every waffle joint in the city, and can rank them depending on desired outcome of waffle.

Cassidy would concur.

(Also he and Klaus should meet some time and binge on everything. This will be a terrible idea. And by terrible of course I mean great.)

(eta: Also just remembered that Robert Sheehan was on Misfits, and after he left the show, Joe Gilgun stepped in.)

(eta: SORRY FOR THE ETAS but wouldn't it be hilarious if the IMDb flu got them both and they thought they were their Misfits characters ok I'm stopping now)

a) Yes. Yes, I am HERE for a bar binge, bring it.
b) Yes, yes he was!
c) .................................. am I going to be lynched if I reveal I never saw Misfits? *DUCKS THROWN CROCKERY*

Hah not at all! I don't think it's very well known on this side of the pond. It's all on Hulu if you have access to it. You'll see that Sheehan was far more typecast in UA than you realize...

Jessica loves donuts, but especially crullers.

Tybalt is a fan of breakfast pastries that involve fruit, more baked than fried. He also comes from a time before sugar was brought to his area, so I am not certain how sweet he likes things. Honey and fruit seems to be his level of sweet, but he has had a few centuries to adapt.

Viv prefers waffles.

In the Constant, there are sweets available, mostly made from honey. Wilson's pretty good at making pumpkin cookies and taffy, the former being the healthier option. (It's possible to die from eating taffy when your health is extremely low.) Waffles are also available, and restore a large amount of health! Although they require butter, which is rare on the island because the only way to get it is from squishing butterflies. Puzzlingly the recipe doesn't need honey even though they appear to be drizzled in copious amounts of yellow syrup. The crockpot is magic.

In Don't Starve Together we see the first appearance of Halloween and winter-holiday candy (and a few non-candies like hot peppers and chunks of actual corn), presumably made by Charlie the nightmare queen. Generally Wilson loves anything sugar-packed, but the "Raisins" are a step too far. And no one likes the Eternal Fruitcake.
