Thursday DE

With the new His Dark Materials show dropping a trailer, which looks creepy and perfect imho, I’ve got daemons on the brain. So what do you think your character’s daemon might be? I know this is a popular topic and we’ve done it before, but it also seems like it’s been a while and we have new pups and players. If you’ve already answered this before might anything have changed?

The daemon I picked out for Amascut is still a striped hyena named Yandu. Jaws strong enough to crack bones, hunts just as much as a lion does. Also, not a lion to reflect how much she's changed from the person she was supposed to be.

I don't really remember giving Fairy Fixit a daemon. I think my difficulty is that she is very not human. But in a daemon AU where she is human...

It is either a leafcutter bee, a moth of some variety, or if I am allowed to pull from her canon, the eusocial teleporting mothlike insect from which her species kinda sorta evolved.

I've never answered this question before, mostly because I haven't had answers for this question. I love the idea, I find it very interesting, but I've never read the books and the movie didn't have all the armored polar bear action it advertised so I was disappointed

Still, the idea is neat and I think I get the general gist of it and now, thanks to other people, I've got sort of answers. Haha. Any recommendations from folks here would be great, too. At some point in the future it might be something I'd like to play with.

Also I don't have names for any of them.

Cisco - It has to be a mongoose, and together they would tackle things way too big for themselves. Thanks, Yamato.

Barry - Also because of Yamato who said, "foxes are -- you know, quick, clever, friendly. Red."

So yes, a red fox. They are swift and smart and can also be goofy and cuddly. And, as the Fox and the Hound has taught us, they are great friends to have.

Matt - Claire-mun and I discussed a Defenders as dogs thing once, sparked by the idea that Danny is a wonderful labradoodle, and Matt ended as a German Shepherd. I cannot top that at this time.

Logan - Pretty obvious, right?

Yamato's canon is not even remotely subtle with the wolf imagery for him (to the point that some shots in Tri go so far as to give him little fangs), and it meshes up with his personality pretty perfectly: He's loyal to a fault, clever, pack-oriented, proud, skittish with people he doesn't know and playful with people he does, territorial and potentially aggressive, and fights as a way of bonding.

If you bring folklore into it, in Japanese folklore wolves are defined by having a particular and borderline impenetrable code of honour, alternately helping people who they approve of and holding grudges against people who accidentally impugn that sense of honour, which is very much a Yamato thing.
inlovewithwords: Milliways roster: Lois Lane (teen, Gwenda Bond books); Tavi (Codex Alera); Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and R2-D2 (Star Wars); Evelyn Trevelyan (Dragon Age: Inquisition); Eriond (Belgariad/Mallorean) (Milliways roster 2017)

Eriond has a stallion named Horse. It's canon.

Evelyn has a bird of some kind, probably grey. A migratory bird for sure.

Lois has an ocelot I haven't been clever enough to think of a name for yet.

Anakin... I'm not really sure, honestly, what his is, other than some kind of Tatooine critter. She dies trying to protect Padme from him at Mustafar, I think, probably after having gone a little insane herself but having enough clarity left to know to try to get in between.

R2 is honestly just N/A. Or else C-3PO.

Tavi has Proserpina. If she is able to turn into a tavar before she settles, she does that; otherwise, a European wildcat: small, climb-y, and still a cat and thus fairly regal.

As for Desiderius, well, his girl's too young to have settled yet. Which is great because it means I don't have to come up with a good idea.
