Thursday DE: I’m Nobody

What would you say you character’s fatal flaw is? How about their heroic strength or talent?

I pondered this for a while, because all the Digikids kind of get a deadly sin as their key flaw (with vainglory substituting in instead of lust, for obvious reasons), and by that metric, Yamato's fatal flaw would be envy -- but I think it's probably more true to say his fatal flaw is insecurity.

Because while envy (largely towards Taichi) is definitely present, there's also an inability to define his self-worth in terms other than how useful he is to other people, anxiety about his friends disliking or not respecting him, an angry and defensive streak and a tendency towards pushing people away, shyness, an obsessive need to always prove himself, and jealousy. So much of the worst parts of his nature can be chalked up to chronic self-worth problems.

His heroic strength is loyalty -- that one is a no-brainer, almost, since he's got the Crest of Friendship. He is steadfastly, absolutely loyal, true to his word almost to a fault, and very protective of people he's loyal to. An alternate answer is that his heroic strength is empathy/compassion: Per word of god, he's the kindest of the eight Digikids, and his willingness to understand and extend kindness towards just about everyone in his vicinity is both the driving force behind a lot of his better nature, and one of the main reasons he's an effective fighter.

Sahaal's talent is his hunter's instincts. Between his natural aptitude, and his long centuries of experience, he's pretty much the Predator with power armour, and just as lethal as that sounds.

It's also kinda his fatal flaw. He's used to hunting, to fights where he holds all the advantages. He relies too much on dirty tricks and terror tactics. A straight fight, against someone just as powerful and skilled, and he'd get taken down easily.

Emcee's fatal flaw, in context of his own canon, would be his outspokenness and desire to be nonconformist, which could also be seen as heroic strengths in an increasingly fascistic society. His talent, though, is for entertaining people and making them forget about all their troubles in the real world, and he will put your pleasure before his own.

Cassidy is one big fatal flaw, lol. I would say his most fatal flaw is his addiction, which is attached to his being a vampire. He is constantly keeping his vampirism in check just like any other recovering drug addict or alcoholic keeps their addiction in check. But in doing so, simply replaces bloodlust with drugs and booze, so it's a vicious cycle. His heroic strength in a literal way is also being a vampire, because he can heal from all sorts of horrific injuries. But his strength also lies in his loyalty to his friends.

Pam is a badass bitch, so that's her heroic strength and I can't be convinced of otherwise. She is also so loyal to Eric Northman that she will endanger herself for his sake, and that is both a strength and a fatal flaw. Essentially her weakness is Eric.

Floki's heroic talent is his genuis for building things, and fatal flaw is his fanaticism. Nothing good ever comes from insisting that your gods are the only true gods, no matter what your religion is. And his intense beliefs drove him mad and destroyed his relationships. Could say the same about his jealousy.
