Wednesday DE: You Got A Friend In Me

Does your character have a best friend? What is their relationship with them like? If they don't, what kind of person would likely end up as their best friend?

Ben is his BFF. I'm not sure they would have become close friends without shared trauma, but they can claim the title as the most snarky of the UA. I can see them sitting in the back of the classroom, just barely keeping their commentary down to a level they know Pogo won't report to dad.

Sam says "Oi, dork" and blows Atton Rand a kiss. Theirs is a slightly odd best-friendship: though it's based on very bad, very old injokes and flirting, like most really good friendships, lurking under the surface is the fact that on some level Atton still tends to believe that Sam just hasn't found him out yet and will drop him like a stone when he finds out what Atton's really like, while Sam is just happy to have found someone who knows exactly who he is, doesn't have any baggage associated with that (it's literally not an issue) and maybe even might stick around for almost as long as Sam will.

Also, don't threaten Atton. Atton Rand is one of the few cases for which Sam believes in enacting wildly disproportionate retribution, to the point of - if necessary - getting that retribution in first.

Outside of Milliways, Sam has very few close friends - nobody really close, at least not these days - and certainly no best friend at all.

Once upon a time, before Sam was revealed to be a Son of Time and they very definitively fell apart, his best friend was the Archangel Michael. Even though Sam wasn't aware of his heritage, Michael regards it as a betrayal, and there is also some jealousy there - Michael has always desperately, desperately wanted to be a Prince of Heaven. That didn't stop him from appealing to his boss to try to save Sam when Jehovah wanted to destroy him, but as a result Jehovah no longer trusts him and in the end it only soured their friendship even further.
