Wednesday DE: Showing Affection

Given how Dreamwidth has been these last few hours, who knows if I'll be able to post this without getting a 504 error, but here goes.

How does your character show affection to other people? Does it change depending on if they're dealing with family or friends?

I think Jess shows affection by teasing or playfully snarking at the other person. If she adds physical 'poking' to the verbal then you are much closer than if she's just being verbal.

Cisco: Cisco maintains a bubble around himself and generally avoids physical contact (note, this only applies to people, shiny objects and cool things he is very hands-on with, usually without asking first), so the people he does give and allow physical contact from are the people he cares about.

There are two ways Cisco shows affection to different people, one of them is hugs and smiles, the other is with arguments (usually of the asinine variety), insults and snark. It just depends on the friend, who he really considers his family. His actual family... he doesn't want to talk about right now.

Barry: Barry is a total hugger of friends and family alike. He's also a high-fiver, shoulder bumper, back patter and lean-on-er. He's someone who will tell others how he feels (well... minus Iris, but that's-- that's way different) and it doesn't bother him to have others express their feelings on him. Sometimes he gets a touch embarrassed or awkward, but he'll never rebuff anyone.

Matt: Matt is an asshole and he shows his friends he cares by constantly lying to them and nearly getting himself killed a lot. He pushes people away and doesn't talk and he's very quick to bail on a situation that ventures anywhere near the territory of expressing actual feelings. That said, those few people who are close to him matter a lot, and most of his efforts to keep them all at arms length are to protect them from getting hurt by his shit (that's what he tells himself anyways, and believes, although most people know that isn't really how it works). The other reason is because he fears losing them. He's stubborn and loyal, and he'll go to hell and back for any one of them that lands in trouble, but he's terrible at letting them in.

Logan: Logan fights with the people he cares about, and has tried to kill a few of them once or twice, and they've probably tried to kill him. It's a thing. He's gruff, but he'll hug, he doesn't say a whole lot but he's also one of the best people to talk to. And he will kill and die for any one of the people on the list of folks he cares about.

Khadgar is gregarious. He is happy to offer help to a friend at the drop of a hat. Need a cookie? He'll conjure you one. Need a demon killed? He's got a fireball with their name on it. Want to just sit around and discuss magical theorems? He's good for that too.
