Tuesday DE

Covering for Lee and posting early so I don’t forget the topic.

Has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know?

Two major things for Amascut:
  • A developmentally disabled elder god used her as a toy for an unspecified amount of time - what exactly this means hasn't been elaborated by canon
  • Her father/father-figure nuked the Kharidian subcontinent by detonating himself right in front of her while her brother held her back so that she wouldn't prevent their father from making his 'noble' sacrifice.

So, yeah, that's what it takes to drive a god crazy if they weren't already.

Her brother knows the most about both and he feels so guilty and repentant about it now, and really wants to help Amascut get better, but can't because of his responsibility as psychopomp for the planet. But because he was partially responsible for both incidents, Amascut hates him and avoids him. Plus, he protects cats so that means he is downright evil. The rest of her family/pantheon knows, but in less detail. Gods outside of the pantheon and mortals know nothing about it; they just assume she has always been the way she is.

I have a couple headcanon things like this for Hera, one of which is based off a canon thing, and happened when she was a very young girl, and the other happening when she was in her late teens, between when she left Ryloth and when she started working with Ahsoka. The second one is based off a line in A New Dawn that says Hera'd had "a short career as an activist." From that I imagined that Hera had initially left Ryloth with the intent of focusing on resisting and changing the Empire through peaceful activism, maybe partly in reaction to growing up in her father's more militant community, but that something happened to her that changed her mind and led her to the conclusion that armed rebellion was the only option.

And my more specific idea of this is that she joined a group of activists working out of Coruscant, many of whom were kind of higher class Core Worlders and then some more like her. She could provide connections, and piloting, and in the meantime worked as a transport pilot. The activists did things like make holos of Imperial environmental and ... being-rights abuses, and released them publicly. But they only lasted a few months, during which everyone aside from Hera was either arrested on trumped up charges or died under mysterious circumstances. I guess that's not exactly witnessing one particular incident, though I did also imagine that the last other surviving member of the group had also been the only other non-human, an Ithorian, whom Hera found beaten to death in the only instance of the Empire not really even bothering with plausible deniability. This all made Hera conclude that non-violent activism wouldn't change the Empire, because the Empire would violently put down even completely peaceful dissent, and so she fled, and shifted her goals to full-on armed rebellion.

The incident from her childhood is based off the late-canon reveal of her having had a brother who died very young. I made up a story around that, though it's something so personal to her that she hasn't even told Kanan anything about it yet.

That's just Tuesday for Thurlow.

Bastion meeting Ganymede might also fall in that category, but I'm not sure.
