Pick a point in your character's canon. Now, what is it your character wants or needs? Do they get it? What might have happened if they'd got/didn't get what they needed at that time?

I am thinking personal wants or needs here, not necessarily what the plot needs to move forward.

Honestly, you can pick any point in canon and what Yamato probably wants is 'to know he's loved, respected, and useful to his friends' and the answer is generally always 'everyone else is showing him that they love him' but also 'he is very, very dense.'
