Blame Eric for all the WoD topics and making me all nostalgic for my favorite game, Mage: The Ascension. Rather than being primarily personality based, the "classes" or types of mages character could play were more philosophic or world view based. There were nine traditions available to play and they were:
Akashic Brotherhood are ascetics, martial artists, and monks, largely drawing from Buddhism, Taoism, Shinto, Hinduism and other such religions. They are masters of the sphere of Mind.
Celestial Chorus are pious believers in a supreme being that encompasses all Gods ever worshipped. They are masters of the sphere of Prime, the raw essence that fuels magic itself.
Cult of Ecstasy are intuitive seers using sensory stimulation, consciousness-expanding techniques, and meditation. They are masters of the sphere of Time.
Dreamspeakers are shamanistic emissaries to the spirit world. They are masters of Spirit magic, such as summoning or binding spirits, necromancy, creating fetishes and travelling to the Umbra.
Euthanatos are Thanatoic willworkers and killers drawing from a legacy of death-cults in India, Greece, and the cultures of the Arabs and Celts. They are masters of the sphere of Entropy.
Order of Hermes are formalized sorcerers, alchemists, and mystics drawing from classical occult practices. They are masters of the sphere of Forces.
Sons of Ether are inspiration-oriented scientists dedicated to fringe theories and alternative science. They are masters of the sphere of Matter.
Verbena are blood-shamans, healers, primordial witches and warlocks. They are masters of the sphere of Life.
Virtual Adepts are technological adepts capable of informational wizardry. They are masters of the sphere of Correspondence, magic dealing with three-dimensional location, space, and communications.

So if your character were sucked into an AU world of Mage: The Ascension--or perhaps someone in bar set up a game and they're playing--what tradition would appeal to them most?

Lois is probably Virtual Adepts.

R2-D2 is also definitely Virtual Adept. I'm not sure he could be anything else, really.

Anakin is either Akashic Brotherhood or Cult of Ecstasy, obviously. He's pretty much the intersection of them. Because he's Anakin and Very Stabby, I'd say the first.

Desiderius, possibly oddly, is Celestial Chorus. He picked up mono-pan-solar-theistic beliefs from his mother.

Tavi... I'm not entirely sure. Sons of Ether, maybe.

Could Sabine be Cult of Ecstasy for her love of visual art?

Sunshine would likely be among the Verbena, from the description. I don't know where else she could fit.

Max, though she would likely blush to think of it, would belong to the Cult of Ecstasy. Her powers are centered on Time, and the littlest photog is always seeking new things to photograph and desires to see the world and expand her horizons.

Amascut is predictably Euthanatos (the cult of the good death?) She very much believes in the benefits of death, and of course was the focus of worship for a cult of good death for a long time. But nowadays her focus on the good death is not a good afterlife, but in helping people to avoid the afterlife all together because all afterlives are terrible. So more into the Sphere of Entropy than usual. However, she regularly would steal spells from the Celestial Chorus and power from the Sphere of Prime. Old family connections and such.

Fairy Fixit lands in Virtual Adepts so hard because she's not just interested in any technology, she works with communication technology. It's just that physical matter and living things are communicated over the network she maintains. And spells dealing with locations and space? Pretty much teleportation right?

I'm actually not sure for Yamato. I think it's between Dreamspeakers (because he's an emissary of sorts to the Digital World, and Gabumon kind of counts as a spirit), or Virtual Adepts, and Iiii think it ultimately just barely comes down on the side of Virtual Adepts.

Eden, meanwhile, is absolutely Cult of Ecstasy. Kid is already a seer of sorts, and he's got a vested interest in using knowledge of the future to shape or prepare for how things are going to go.

Gaster would be a Son of Ether (in fact, I actually created a mage character like this who was based on Gaster. I'd love to play her in a game sometime.)

Urania would probably be Order of Hermes (though she probably wouldn't be too keen on the name).

Phoenix doesn't really fit any of these, though he hangs with Maya and Pearl, who are spirit mediums, and received his Magatama from them, so maybe he'd be a Dreamspeaker by proxy?

Snufkin would probably be a Verbena, since it's the closest to his own aesthetic.
