I'm pretty sure Wilson is canonically represented as a pawn that crossed the chessboard.

Bastion's a rook, I think.

Sariel would be a decent castle - traveling for distance, anyone? There's also a case to be made for her as a bishop, I suppose, but that's a second choice.

Klaus is a knight, but one that wasn't told his move so he just kinda sits there until he accidentally discovers it.

Cecil is a bishop - he just comes at the world a little sideways.

Jonathan is a pawn - only can go forward, no retreating, doesn't have any ability to dodge the crap being thrown at him. But once he reaches the other side of the board... God Save The Queen.

Yamato is a Knight, both in the sense of 'lawful good warrior type' and in the sense of 'moves unpredictably to flank people or take them by surprise.'

Eden is a Queen, both for the 'can move in any direction at any distance' element and for the 'promotes from pawn' symbolism.

Tess is literally designated as a white knight in canon. It denotes that she is a field intel agent for Checkmate.

I'm trying to figure out who Reyes would be based on who other characters would be. Early Overwatch he's probably the king, but public Overwatch he becomes queen to Jack's king. Reaper is probably a knight, to reflect his ability to attack from unexpected angles.

At his current place in story, Gabe is probably a knight still. He's in a position where he has to follow orders, but he can still try and be flexible about it within those confines.
