Monday DE: Everybody Wants To Be The Hero (?)
Gooooooooooooood morning, Milliways! And welcome to another instalment of Groundhog Day.
Today's DE has been suggested by Chirrut-mun: how do your characters fit with the Jungian personality archetypes? (More info in the link).

Fairy Fixit: caregiver ego, magician self, and creator soul. I don't know where her willingness to look the other way while people die fits into this, though. It's something common to the fairies, it just gets expressed as a nasty passive-aggressiveness in her case.
Amascut: hero ego, magician self, and outlaw soul. Very much in the Ego/make a mark on the world quadrant.

Spoiler: I have a thing about the overlap between Sage and Explorer, and a serious Caregiver problem.
Lois: somewhere between Sage (core desire: "to find truth") and Explorer (being a seeker and always happy to try something new), I think--and some degree Caregiver, what with her application of Sage and association with superheroes.
R2-D2: Outlaw + Caregiver. I don't think I even need to explain that one. Possibly, to be honest, a side-dose of Lover, not in the romantic sense but in the sense of his unending devotion the extended Naberrie-Skywalker-Organa-Solo clan.
Anakin: Cross between Caregiver (Jedi Order plus still having ethics then) and Magician/Hero (those are pretty obvious).
Vader: It's weird, he doesn't actually want to rule anything, and he's no hero anymore (lolsob) except by Imperial standards (and not even then because honestly they're scared of him) but by that breakdown, Ruler with Magician/(fallen) Hero.
Ghost!Vaderkin: Finally graduates to some combination Sage/Explorer with Magician.
Desiderius: Caregiver with side dose of Sage/Explorer. Before he takes over he does a lot of internal and external exploration (identity and continent!) and is a scholar all his life. That said, Alera in general and being First Lord in particular mildly necessitates Magician as a core value/goal, so a pinch of that. For all that he is literally an emperor? Tavi did most of the Ruler work and Derius isn't nearly so chess-master-ish.
Tavi: I strongly believe his most powerful furycrafting is water, not least because he is extremely fluid and adapts to fit containers. Sigh. As with many of mine, because I have a character archetype, Sage/Explorer peeks out in the sense of some of his internal journeys, but also, they are not what's important. The tl;dr is that literally the entirety of Providing Structure and Leave A Mark apply.

Providing Structure: It should be noted that honestly, Tavi thinks at least for him maintaining a level of power is necessary to engineer the world that protects and nourishes others.
- Ruler: Literal. Approves of personal autonomy and leaves openings for chaos, but definitely trying to control world direction. Also will revolt against any authority he doesn't approve of, which usually amounts to "tells him no" or "not him."
- Artist: dreamer all his life and literally an engineer, but while some of those dreams are technological innovations, a lot of it is now about literally engineering his dreams for the world into reality with the power he gets from being emperor (or tech specs he makes other people build, he's busy).
- Caregiver: Literal life of service since he was 15 and feels it very deeply, the three can't exist without each other.
Leave A Mark: Tavi is probably going to go down in history as the greatest First Lord Alera has in a terrifying number of centuries.
- Hero: Literal. Throughout all six books he's trying to train himself to be stronger, faster, smarter, powerful enough to protect everyone, stop civil wars and apocalypses, and generally outdo everyone, because he feels he has to.
- Magician: Literal. Groundbreaking thesis at 17 on laws of magic, currently strongest around, learns them far beyond anyone else's knowledge, decides he doesn't like them and rewrites them, and will take that knowledge to his and Kitai's graves.
- Outlaw: Literally in a few cases, historically! On the surface it doesn't seem to fit with the structure bit, but besides willingness to rebel as above? Fundamentally he wants to rip down every established structure (magical, social, political) and build new ones to replace them, and he's already secretly rewritten laws of magic, specifically to undermine and ultimately destroy class structure. The two things, destroy structure and build structure, are inseparable to him.
As far as how his brain works, the six are kind of all the same outlook/strategy/goal/talent/role to him.

Sabine: Outlaw and Sage. She craves freedom and knowledge.
Jessica: Caregiver and Lover. She wants to make the world a better and safer place, and for herself, she wants connections with people that matter.
Viv: I’m thinking Artist and Sage, though Explorer is a strong candidate as well.
Tybalt: Jester/(reluctant)Hero. He sees the world as a stage and would prefer it to be a comedy and him a side character, but he saw a need and so became a king to save his first court.
Danny: Hero/Explorer. He would do well with some Sage but he is what he is.
Alustin: Sage/Jester. He craves knowledge and is not afraid to seek it out, and is more than willing to act the fool to disarm people. He also seeks to enjoy life to the fullest.
Ben: Caregiver/Everyman

Eden, meanwhile, is the Sage.

Ego: Caregiver
Soul: Explorer
Self: Magician supported by core desire of Sage ("to seek the truth")
