So was/is your pup a dinosaur fan or something else like sharks or geology or what have you? In other words, what is/was their obsession with the natural world?

Ahsoka went through a predator phase as a youngling, likely big cats.

Sabine doesn't seem like she had a natural world phase, but she certainly did dive into computers.

Jess had spiders as that's what her parents were studying. She didn't get a chance to have her own thing before the coma.

Viv was made a teen, so I don't know that she would have had a chance for such.

Ben...as tempted as I am to say marine life (cephalopods!), I'm getting a megafauna vibe from him.

Tess loves the sea. Loves it. Wanted to be a mermaid when she was a kid. Has her Masters in Marine Biology. Kind of put off boating after getting kidnapped by pirates, but scuba and surfing are all a go.
