Monday DE: I love all my children equally

Afternoon, everyone! Eric, thanks for stepping in to take my Bank Holiday Monday DE this week <3

Inspired by my writing group asking me to choose my 'favourite fictional character' (singular!!), how good is your character with picking favourites? Are they highly choosy or do they struggle, like me, with narrowing it down? And do they have any favourites (coughfavouritechildrencoughcough) when they know they shouldn't have, or are they strictly impartial?

Obi-Wan definitely has a favorite Padawan. (It's not Anakin.)

Zenigata: His standards are so fucking high, guys. They involve "Do they want me to mentor them? Then they're my favorite." HOWEVER... Zenigata does demand a lot of his subordinates and his partners. He gets frustrated when they don't meet his level of zeal, and he was downright abusive when his son Oscar made 'rookie' mistakes and held him to an impossible standard. They both paid the price for that, so he's a much gentler man when he's mentoring now, but you still have to have the zeal on some level for Zenigata to really take interest in you. Once you have his interest, well, then you're fine. He doesn't play favorites.

Zuko: fuck you, he's been on the losing end off the favorite stick and it nearly killed him. literally.

Lan Zhan: This petty son of a bitch has favorites, yes, and it's Lan Jingyi. However, he doesn't elevate his favorite -- he just made sure Lan Jingyi had a place to grow among the Lan -- the clan is unforgiving to the loud, the sarcastic, the observant, or the questioning - which is why Lan Jingyi and students like him thrived under Lan Zhan's teachings. It doesn't mean he gets special treatment beyond being sure that he has space to grow and be himself, though.

Vex: The Dark Fae is literally all about playing favories and currying favor as part of survival, so you better believe Vex will do so. This doesn't mean it's all it is -- Vex prioritizes only one person over himself and it's his son, and even that's done very poorly. But Vex's favorite is Vex himself, and the rest... well, they're alright but they're not Vex.

Sharon Carter is extremely fucking opinionated in all things, including her favorite people. (Peggy. Her favorite person is Peggy.)

Zinda Blake's favorite person is whoever she happens to be talking to at the time.

Ahsoka would have a lot of trouble narrowing down her favs, but there are a top two.

Jess thinks she doesn't play favorites but will stand up for anyone who has ever been mistreated into thinking they are a weapon or is being treated like one. She stood up to the Avengers for Hulk once guys, even against Carol.

Of course Anakin doesn't play favorites. Obviously. He'd ne--

yeah okay so anyway

Person: (note that Shmi would rank higher, except she's dead now)
- Clone Wars era: in order: Padme, Ahsoka, Obi-wan and R2-D2, Shmi, Rex
- Imperial era: ... er... Padme, Luke, definitely not Ahsoka totally Ahsoka, Shmi, Piett I guess? He has kinda a weird relationship with Astra, but I don't think it can be classified as liking in any manner.
- Blue Glowy: Padme, Luke, Leia and Ahsoka, Obi-wan and R2-D2, Shmi, Rex
((Sequel: Padme, Luke, Leia and Ahsoka, Obi-wan, Shmi, R2-D2, Rey and Ben (which he feels more inclined towards very much depends on how idiotic Ben is being any given day), Rex))

Jedi: Ahsoka

Droid: R2-D2

Clones: Rex, then any he serves directly with on an extremely regular basis (EG, his fighter squadron), by that metric the 501st over the other Legions (with the 212th ranking second), but after that he's very equally fond of all of them. He likes the clones! They're chill dudes and very good at methodical killing.

Ship: Eta-2; while he is convinced of the TIE's superiority compared to X-Wings, approximately based on a difference in design opinion on it, emotionally his Clone Wars-era starfighter is far and away his favorite.

Kill: Palpatine, then probably the Trade Federation ship above Naboo (you know, when he was nine, because okay that happened). Ozzel and then the Trade Federation guys on Mustafar are probably next.

Lightsaber: The Lightsaber Of Destiny(TM), then the one Luke actually built for himself.

Child: TBH, Luke, but some of that is because Luke's the only one he interacted with as parent while alive, and also because Leia a) reminds him painfully of Padme, despite the bit where Luke absolutely has Padme's personality, and b) terrifies him, sooooo uh.
