Tuesday DE: Deep roots

What does your character(s) think of their ancestors? Anything or nothing at all? Are they a vague idea or do are they distinct individuals?

ETA: Ancestors here doesn't have to mean blood relative. It can be cultural, friendship, organizational, etc.

Lan Zhan, Zuko and Zenigata all have VERY complicated relationships with their ancestry because they're all descended from someone with a very big legacy -- whether it's Sect Leadership, Really Great Cops, or the mingled bloodline of an Avatar and a Fire Lord. They all deal with really weighty shit, and their ancestors are all very individualized for them. The least 'individualized' is Zenigata, though he thinks of his many-greats-grandfather with as the roots of a very mighty oak made entirely of cops. The branches are all important, but the oak and trunk are what lifted them up.

Vex? He's an orphan who barely knew his father. He doesn't have any connection to his people or history due to that, and that definitely directs how he relates to others -- especially Light Fae, who are very steeped in tradition and ritual, while the Dark just...aren't.

Gaster's ancestors fought in the war between monsters and humans, and were part of the monsters's last stand before they were sealed underground. A good part of his motivation as Royal Scientist was to ensure that their sacrifice was not in vain.

For Urania, her ancestors DID create the universe, but also tried to destroy it. Not to mention most of her family is immortal, so she tends to keep her distance from them, emotionally and physically, except for a few exceptions.

Phoenix has heard a little bit about Grandpa Ryunosuke from his dad's side of the family, and thinks he's pretty cool. He's not the reason Phoenix became an attorney, though.

Snufkin, at this point, does know who his parents are, but has no real desire to reconnect with them at this point. He knows himself, and that's enough.

Lup has no idea what her ancestors were like, and doesn't care.

Tess doesn't really know much about her families at all. She never heard anything past her grandparents on Lionel Luthor's side - mainly that he killed them for the insurance money - and heard nothing about her adoptive parent's ancestors. She used to think she might have some grand Cajun heritage, but that got blown out of the water.

Kylo knows where he comes from. He's still coming to terms with it.

Creed doesn't care, and doesn't much know. His family were working class in the early 1800s. He doubts many of them lived long.

Wanda would probably be interested in her heritage, but canon barely gave us info about her parents. So she may have heard stories, but I have no idea what they might have been.
