Jess: Pure spite. She had this with the aftermath of the skrull Secret Invasion when the leader of the invasion took over Jess's identity. So not only did Jess get to deal with people mistaking her for the skrull leader but also the fun knowledge that her friends didn't realize it was her...for years.

I'm not sure Yamato's ever met an obstacle he couldn't push his way through, and given how much of his ailing self-worth he ties up in being competent and useful, I don't know how well he'd cope with something happening that thoroughly crushes his chances of doing what he wants to do.
