Yamato has a younger brother, Takeru, Crestbearer of Hope (and one of two Light-elemental Chosen, the other being Hikari, Taichi's younger sister, with Takeru representing the dawn and Hikari dusk compared to Yamato and Taichi's moon and sun thing). Their parents are divorced, so at least in 01, they only see each other once a year (which for late-90s Japan, which had a very strong 'once divorced, the two sides of the family should never interact' thing going on, was fairly progressive -- notably in the 2020 series that follows a different set of the kids' reincarnations, this is instead replaced with them rarely seeing each other because Takeru lives in Tokyo and Yamato lives in rural Shimane, as social mores regarding divorcees and their kids had eased up significantly by then).
