Millicon - Britain

Right! Well, amazingly, everyone seems to have agreed that the best place and date for the British Millicon (d00ds, we need a catchier title) should be London, and somewhere between the 8th and the 27th of July, possibly co-inciding with the release of the new Harry Potter book. Heh, I least expected some conjecture!

So, let's say the 15th to the 17th of July, which is a Friday to a Sunday, in London. Or will everyone be too distracted by finding out who the Half-blood Prince is?

Now it may be six months away, but we need a couple of things.

Ideas; where to go, what to do while we're there. Milli-themed ideas! Also offers of places to stay, or the names of good hotels and whatnot.

People; To help me, ([livejournal.com profile] chains_of_irony ) with organistion and such. Because if it's all left to me? Seriously guys, not much with the organisation skills here. And - A better title!

I guess reading the book can wait until the Monday.

As for things to do: it's London! There's the usual London type things such as the Eye and whatnot, and quite a few bars and shops I can recommend.

What's everyone's preference for the kind of place they want to go to?

Sorry, that's me. I'm logged in here now. There was at some point a sf themed pub in Holborn. I'll hunt it down...

At least you're not crushing on Paul Turner the vampire elf :)

I'd prefer the weekend before the release, but I normally finish it in a night, and I'd only be able to manage a day trip really. As to things... Erm, museums, bars, bookstores... Whatever, really.

*Also wishes you could come!!*

Any chance you could make it at all? We could have a Jenna fund?

If I weren't already planning a trip in July it'd be a much higher probability. Not to mention needing to renew my passport, erk.

Well...I will be in London by then, and if the thinger is around the book release time, there will be a few more yanks with me so...can we come too, maybe?

The Geekering? Like The Gathering except um not? *looks both ways and runs away!*

I agree that it should be the weekend before the release, in case people have other plans with other friends. (Operating on the assumption that Milliways leaves you time for outside interests, that is. ^^)

I'd personally prefer it to be in the first weekend of July, since that'll be the end of term for me and I know I'll have that weekend away from my internship and such. And if it's then, I'll be able to provide crash space for a night or two -- if it's later than that, I probably won't be able to. But perhaps we should open up a poll, and get a majority opinion.

I'm over here in Texas and have not a prayer of attending your Millicon, but my birthday's on July 16th; so if it's happening then, I'll be raising a toast for you in spirit at least.

There is the faintest chance that I (Bran-mun) might also be in London at the time. No idea at the moment -- it really depends on whether my funding comes through.

That weekend works brilliantly for me. *bounces* (College ends on the 8th, y'see, and I go to sit in a tent in a Welsh field on the 27th).

Um. People suggesting bars? So long as they won't ask for ID beyond the fact that I do, actually, look above 18. Because if they will, I'm screwed. Um. Other than that minor problem, a bar or a restaurant would be the best place, I reckon, and I can help with organisation, definitely.

[identity profile] chains-of-irony.livejournal.com 2005-01-31 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
I have ID! (Just!) I'll buy you drinks!

[identity profile] surexit.livejournal.com 2005-01-31 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
I also don't actually like the taste of alcohol. :D I wasn't worried about getting the drinks, only getting in. :)

I am going to be there; I suggested the date in the first place because I was planning to be there with the Nazgul anyway. Now, I will just have to induce her to take a character in Milliways so she counts as attendee and not tagger-along and hanger-on...

What to do: Neverwhere locations, for one thing. Not systematically, just one or two where you can do something and feel Gaimanny.

*is reading Neverwhere at the moment*

[identity profile] chains-of-irony.livejournal.com 2005-01-31 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Neverwhere locations! ^_^ Someone suggested calling it London Above.

And oui, spread the Milliways love.

How about a trip on the Underground? To Knightsbridge, maybe, or Earl's Court.

[identity profile] surexit.livejournal.com 2005-01-31 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
*makes a face* Wouldn't be much fun, unless we were actually going somewhere, y'know? The Underground is a crowded, crowded place.

As long as I get a job by then, I should be able to catch a train to our glorious capital city. As long as people want to see me of course :) and I think Millicon Britania is an excellent suggestion.

I would suggest cathing a West End show, which isn't exactly a Milli-activity but would be great fun, but that can be expensive and tickets would need to be ordered in advance.

If I have random money, I can fly in from Israel...

Ack! I've already agreed to a read-in of HP the night it comes out. :(
