Arithon's thread
First the grumpy little Master is recognized, via voice, by Faith. She had a nightmare a while back about being beaten, from his POV. After a slight mis-understanding (he thought Lysaer was in the bar, and demanded to be locked up) Arithon is told about said dream. Arithon is compassionate, and gentle, and really would probably give 90% of the people who have talked to him a heart-attack. He's snark-less. He offers to help if there are demons to bind, and conversation turns briefly to Buffy. Madb puts Faith'mun off punch forever. Sorry. A brief suggestion of alcohol and conversation about relative tolerances (hers is Slayer level, his is pretty good for someone his size). Faith claims to be not-quite human, and Arithon corrects her a bit. Faith thinks its kind of cool that he can see her demon. Conversation fades out. It was, however, fun.
Next we have Asmodean, who is interested in the sound of music. There is much snark in this thread. The highlight is Arithon claiming that Asmodean and Moiraine are much alike.
Then Archie who, really, is a lot braver than he seems. After all, the only times he's talked to Arithon prior to this involved implied or out-right threats. Archie compliments the music, Arithon thanks him but is reserved. Polite conversation on the nature of practice and flaws ensues. And an innocent question makes things get deep. Arithon explains being s'Ffalenn, in general. Arithon is bitter about the whole mess. Madb finds it hard to blame him. The subject of unicorns comes up, and Arithon gives Archie a gift. Archie wonders why, he thinks Arithon doesn't approve of him. There is a little more insight into the nature of the Master of Shadows. Archie promises not to tell people about the s'Ffalenn geas, and claims to understand. Arithon hopes not, and when pushed, explains. Archie connects the dots and realizes that, somehow, the unicorns were used to put Arithon into a bad, bad place. They talk about dying, and living, and the benefits of sacrifice (even by staying alive) as opposed to selfish behaviors. Archie is more a hero than Arithon. Arithon just wishes it was over, and ends up turning away.
