Last night, Jane descends the stairs to find out what woke her up. She finds...a dog, barking at the bar. How odd. In keeping with the natural order of things, Jane soon ends up covered in lemonade and dog drool. Later, Jane meets Peter as Peter gives the dog a whole lot of envy- and hunger-inducing chocolate. Jane then is covered in chocolate ice cream and some more dog drool.
Good timing being what it is, Will Stanton chooses this time to mildly greet Jane. Jane glomps Will. Will and Jane catch up on old times and talk about how things have been going. Trouble-causing words such as "remember" and "coincidence" are furtively dropped into conversation by both muns. Kibeth and Will have a conversation composed entirely of meaningful looks. Jane wonders how come she's stuck at the bar and Will comes and goes easily. As Will tries to assure her in the humanest way possible that she most likely will return to the moment she left, someone catches Jane's eye.
*cues dramatic music. One delicate, rippling, bell-like phrase sounds from nowhere.*
An unassuming Oxford professor is just quietly enjoying a drink at the bar when his mind is invaded by an urgent thought from Will, actually causing the mild-mannered professor to curse. It only gets worse from there, folks.
Jane and Will talk behind the professor's back, Jane wondering who the professor is, and Will trying not to seem like he knows too much. Jane decides to go ask the professor if he knows her, because she can't remember where she knows him from or who he might be. (It's not the Dark that fills Old Ones with dread, it's times like these)
Jane approaches the strange professor in search of the truth. Merriman thinks of how much Jane has grown since he last saw her and then has to pretend not to know her, making Jane's mun wibble. Jane asks if the professor knows her, because it's really bothering her that she seems to only half-remember him. Merriman has a hard time answering. Jane, feeling oddly wrong, and Merriman, pretending not to know Jane, introduce themselves to each other. They shake hands, causing the part of Jane that remembers Merriman to break into itty-bitty pieces. Will tries to be comforting. Merriman asks what's wrong, even though he knows all too well what's wrong, the beaky bastard. He offers her the knowledge of why she remembers him, she wants it, but he doesn't give it to her anyway. Fine time for an Old One to start thinking of an individual's happiness.
Will takes Jane to her room and leaves her there. She is not allowed to remember most of what happened. Old Ones and necessity really suck.
Hours it took:3
Muns it broke: At least 4.
Why did I ever say I'd summarize such an emotional monster? Why oh why?
