Hiya Folks,

I'm very pleased to announce that new tags have been processed.
In fact, all the tags in the hopper have been handed out.

If for some reason your brandy-new tag is wrong for what ever reason, head back over to the Tag Request page (handy link in the sidebar to your left), and follow the Edit instructions.

Please go forth and tag as much of your backlog as you feel up to tagging.

Please also feel free to request a tag if you've been putting it off.
We'll have about 400 or so getting freed up in the next few weeks, so while it might take a little time, it'll surely not be as long as wait as previously experienced.

Sheepishly Edited to Add:

In my haste to get something posted, I neglected to give the vast amounts of credit where it's due:

NONE OF THIS WOULD BE POSSIBLE without the TIRELESS contributions of Veronica and Cass.
Like seriously, shower them with accolades, because not all heroes wear capes!

Blame it on drift between the Cybertronian calendar and the Earth one.

Hi, everyone. Time to start getting ready for the Bar's next big holiday!

Just wanted to let you know that on June 26, 27, and 28- Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of the last week of June- Milliways is going to be celebrating the Cybertronian holiday of Cubefall. (The original holiday fell in May, but players have had RL difficulty with their schedule vs. the calendar.) The plot was first proposed in 2008 by our Optimus Prime-mun of the time and approved by the mods. It's the 2007 live-action movie Transformers' equivalent of New Year-type celebrations, and this is what can be expected:

On Monday the 26th, those who enter the Bar proper will find that the place has broken out in construction toys. All kinds of them- furniture made entirely of Legos, Capsela constructs whizzing stuff back and forth overhead, the walls are suddenly made of moving, functional Erector sets, Tinkertoy light fixtures- you name it. A furnace, safely locked so that it cannot be entered by accident, will have replaced the fireplace. Patrons who approach the Bar Herself will be presented with vidscreens wishing them a good Cubefall and offering them several test reconfigurations- physical forms different from their own, which they can choose to try on for the next three days. These can be nearly anything within reason, like at Halloween, but since the holiday is the Cybertronian celebration of the day that the Allspark came to the lump of lifeless rock that became Cybertron, there will always be at least one robot form among the alternatives. (And because Bar is aware that this may bother the organics, there will also always be one small, fuzzy, adorable creature that is in no way humanoid, like a kitten or a tribble or something. A non-reproducing tribble. Tribble storms are an entirely separate kind of plot thank you very much.)

The form changes are not going to happen to people by surprise, and if someone says no or simply doesn't give an answer when first presented with the option to change, they can ask for their choices back at any point during the duration of the holiday. Cubefall is about choosing new beginnings and deciding upon whether to accept them or not. It's not an involuntary thing. No transformation trauma at all!

At the end of the three days, the vidscreens will appear to people again. Unless deliberately and clearly specified in a moment free of outside interference of any kind, the changes chosen go away at the end of the time period. You have to be sober, awake, in your right mind, etc. for the changed form to stick.

The holiday cannot revive the dead. Once your spark has ceased, it cannot be rekindled. It can change the form of the dead, but they're still dead.

Anything thrown into the furnace during Cubefall will be recycled by Bar into something new and appropriate, and may well count against the thrower's bar tab, since the point of the furnace is to melt down the old and smelt it into the new. Anyone who actually plays with the construction toys and makes changes, whether major or minor, to the area around them will find that he, she, or it experiences a few days of good luck- it's considered an auspicious thing, to make changes at Cubefall.

Illiterate characters get the same vidwindow as everyone else, but their messages are spoken aloud rather than printed. Pregnant characters get the explanatory vidwindow, but do not get offered reconfigurations, as they are in the middle of a systems task not to be interrupted.

Outside is not affected. Bar's ability to provide orders is not affected. People who come into Bar on Tuesday instead of Monday will get the same vidscreens as Monday visitors. People who cannot log in on Wednesday will have their normal forms back the next time they log in, unless they make arrangements in advance to keep the changes. People who don't want to make any reconfigurations to themselves will not get changed, and will not get another vidscreen unless they specifically ask the Bar for one before Wednesday evening.

Oh, and you get one (1) transformation for Cubefall. Whatever form you pick, if you pick a form to change into? You have that form until the holiday is over. No changing back and forth; either change for three days, or don't change at all.

Any questions? Let us know! Thanks!

We interrupt your gaming day to bring you the following message regarding the Retirement Renewal Deadline.

Retirement Renewal Requests are due by midnight August 31st.
However, the "essay portion" for lack of a better term, is being reduced from 300-500 words to 100+ words. And those words can be submitted until 11:59 pm on Saturday September 3rd.
If anyone has any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to leave them in a comment below.
Moving forward, I would highly recommend those with Retired characters set an alarm for this time next year on any calendar apps you may have at your disposal.

Hiya Folks!

Another Status update for you. Ready?
Three.
Two.
One.

Let's jam.

Now:

The Great Milli-Census 2015 is over and Cast List is nigh-on complete.

If your character isn't on the Cast List, you have until Midnight EDT tonight to fix that.

Exceptions to this include people with outstanding Retirement Confirmation Requests, or people who have Retirements confirmed but haven't rejoined the Main Comm with those characters.

Soon:

Barring some last-minute-in-the-clutch additions, the Great Milli-Purge of 2015 will begin around midnight tonight (EDT).

This means that any character not on the Cast List will be open for application come the opening of the App cycle tomorrow. It's been our policy that the First To App has first claim over a character, but for this month only we're giving priority to any players wishing to reclaim characters washed out by the Milli-Purge.

To help with this we won't be processing any Apps until the close of this App Cycle on the 10th of September.

Also, our Cast List wasn't the only thing that got rebuilt during the last month. There are subtle tweaks to our How To App guide, as well as a Great Big Gigantic Overhaul of our FAQ.

Please give them a careful read at your first earliest convenience.

Later:

The Contact List is in a Shambles, and will likely remain that way for a little while longer. But it is on the To Do list of impending Game Related Administrationy Things right next to updating our Plotting/RP Comm registry and finding/creating a new "How To Play" image for the Main Comm profile.
(The little broken img link tasks me. IT TASKS ME!)

I think that might be everything.
Please leave questions in the comments below.

Thank you again for all of your patience!

ETA:
I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS BAR!

Hello CrackRats.
Look at your Cast List.
Now Back to me.
Now back at your Cast List.
Now Back to me.
Sadly, unlike me, your Cast List. isn't complete.
Look down.
Back up.
Where are you?
You're at the Cast List meticulously reviewing your information.
What's in your hand?
Back at me.
I have it. It's a keyboard, which I'm giving you to let us know what got keyed in wrong.
Look again.
The Cast List has been corrected.
Anything is possible when you leave corrections in the comments below.
I'm on a Horse.

Apps for the month of August are now closed.
They will reopen again September 1st.

With a couple of exceptions, all submitted Apps have been processed, and all requests for updated information on the Cast List have been seen to.

Speaking of the Cast List, it is now "up-to-date" for all Canons with a title name of # to DC.
"Up-to-date" meaning Containing All Information Obtained During The Census Month of August.

So if you've got a character in a Canon between # and DC, mosey on over and make sure the keying errors are few and far between.
And if they're not...please drop us a note in the comments, following the instructions provided after the table.

K Thnx!

Phase One of the Census is now complete!
Thank you so much for your participation and patience.

We're now moving onto Phase Two, in which we'll tackle actually building the Cast List as well as straightening up the overall Community Member List.

I filled out the Census! Why can't I see my entry on the Cast List?

First off, thank you so much for participation in the Census!
Secondly, there's a really good reason why your information doesn't yet appear on the Cast List: because we haven't put it there yet. All entries on the Cast List are hand-keyed directly into the html table itself, and transcription takes time.

At the moment the current plan is to have the Cast List populated with all the collected information by September 1st.

I didn't fill out the Census, and now for some reason I've lost the ability to post to the Comm. What gives?

The only characters allowed to play in Milliways are characters who are on our Cast List...which at the moment consists of the Cast List and the Census data collected during July. So I've gone through and removed posting access for anyone who isn't on either list.

Reinstatement is easy, respond to this post with your Character Name (journal name), and I'll add them back. You will then have until September 1st, 2015 to fill out the newly Re-opened Census form.

Failure to fill out the form will result in your character being dropped from the game entirely, meaning you'll have to re-apply to the game to play, and will have to wait until the next open App Cycle to do so.

Extenuating Circumstances will be taken into consideration.

I did fill out the Census, and now for some reason I've lost the ability to post to the Comm. What's up with that?!

That...is totally a keying error on our part, and we'll fix it in a jiff. Just add your Character Name (journal name) to the thread down below...and um...sorry about that.

I requested a Retirement for a character of mine during the Census, and just got this weird email asking that I confirm that selection. What's up with that?

It was brought to our attention that keying errors were made during submission, so we're just doing some pre-transcription QA. Just respond to the email as instructed before September 1st, 2015 and you'll be good.

I requested a Retirement for a character of mine, but...wait, what's this about a weird email? I didn't get one of those.

That would be a keying error on MY part. Shoot an email to the milliways.apps [at] gmail address confirming your selection, and we'll go from there.

If you're unsure whether you should be choosing Retirement or Deletion for a character you no longer wish to play, choose Deletion.
The only difference between the two is Retirement means no one else can play that character, where as Deletion means that only your Milli-Canon/Milli-History version of that character is out of the playable character pool.

I have some other question regarding what's going on!

Leave that question in the comments, and we'll do our very level best to answer it!

Two things, real quick!

1) Apps for the month of July are now CLOSED.
Thank you to everyone who app'd this month, especially those who are still waiting for their apps to be processed.
Your patience is not going unnoticed. The remaining apps will be one of the first things dealt with when I return on Tuesday.
Second to like...jetlag.

2) The Great Milli-Census of 2015 is ongoing.
You can find more information regarding the Census ways-back-room.dreamwidth.org/5512620.html.
(link is member-locked for speed Security.)

I think that's it!
We now return you to your Sunday, already in progress.

Apps for the month of July are open!
And they will remain that way until the 10th.

If you have any questions regarding the playability of any character that is not reflected in our still under construction Cast List, feel free to drop the us a line at Milliways_Apps [at] Gmail and we'll go sifting through the archives for you.

The application process has not changed for July, regardless of the ongoing Census. So just follow that procedure and you're good to go.

Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

The Great 2015 Census, and YOU!
(an informational update in the style of an FAQ)

So! Census! Wooo!

Why are you doing this to us?

Because we hate you and want you to feel nothing but crushing sadness and despair.

Wait...seriously?

No, no of course not!

Look, the short version is that due to circumstances beyond our control the domain that use to host our Cast List expired, taking all of our data along with it.

SO the Census is to rebuild the Cast List?

Yup! Pretty much. From scratch even! And in a way that will hopefully keep something like that from ever happening again.

So what does this mean going forward?

Well, first it means that our Application Process has changed slightly.

We’ve added a Contact List and a Cast List entries to the Milliways_Mod journals, and linked them both to the Main Bar and Back Room.

The Contact List is where you’ll be able to find not only the names of every player in the Bar and how to contact them, but also who they play.

The Cast List is where you’ll find the most Up To Date information on all the characters in the Bar. If they’re not on that list, then they can be app’d during the first 10 days of every month.

Buuuuut it’s looking kind of short, for a comprehensive list. And shorter because you’ve asked people NOT to add to it.

That’s not really a question….but I get your point.

Unlike the domain, which had a whole database set-up built in, this new Cast List is really just an html table, and as such each entry has to be hand coded. While it’s good practice for coding n00bs, it’s kind of labor intensive, which is why we’re planning something different for the Census.

Oh Right! The Census. What’s that all about?

I’m glad you asked!

The Census is how we’re going to get the bulk of the characters of Milliways onto the Cast and Contact Lists. Rather than go line by line with comments posted via DreamWidth, we’re going to use a Google Form that will go live starting in July.

When you say “Bulk” do you mean everyone?

Well, as many people as we can. We’ll be sending out an email prior to July to make sure we’ve got the attention of as many people that care as possible. Then in July we’ll post the link to the Google Form in a locked-to-members post in the Back Room and a Flocked Post to the Mod Journal.

Okaaaay, but then what?

Then...people fill those forms out at their leisure, and we close it at the end of the month, transcribe the data collected into html table compliant bits, and *poof* Cast List and Contact List!

Hmmm. This does seem pretty straight forward. But...what if I have further questions?

Oh well, that’s easy too. Just leave them as comments on this post and we’ll answer them to the best of our abilities.

Hi, everyone. Time to start getting ready for the Bar's next big holiday!

Just wanted to let you know that on June 6, 7, and 8- Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the first week of the month- Milliways is going to be celebrating the Cybertronian holiday of Cubefall. (Yes, normally the holiday is the last week of May, but several players have had more difficulty with that week than the June week, and anyway who said Cybertron's year had to map to Earth's properly?) The form changes are not going to happen to people by surprise, and if someone says no or simply doesn't give an answer when first presented with the option to change, they can ask for their choices back at any point during the duration of the holiday. Cubefall is about choosing new beginnings and deciding upon whether to accept them or not. It's not an involuntary thing. No transformation trauma at all!

I forgot to do this last night, but in my defense, last night I was trying to recover from an attempted 24 Hours of Marvel movie marathon (I gave up four hours before the end, I can't sleep in theater chairs even when they are nice recliners and I have done enough excessive caffeine use in college not to want to drink that much coffee ever again).

In case anyone missed it-

Does your character not have a tag? Go here, find the appropriate letter, and tag in with your request for one.

Are you regularly RPing with somebody who doesn't have a tag and hasn't requested one? Go here and tag in for them; we'll do what we can to get those requests filled too.

I realize that we haven't gotten the cast list back up and running yet. We're working on a new one that won't be vulnerable to spam entries, and we'll get it out the door just as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime, however, we still plan to open apps at midnight EST. Until the new cast list is up, please comment here with the journal for your new pup; comments on this entry will be screened.

I should note that we do not take OCs. Please do not try to join the community with an OC journal or comment on this post with an OC journal.

Thank you.
