Tonight's thread between Jo Harvelle and Susannah reminded me of something that might be useful to the new crop of bartenders. When Eddie was Assistant Manager, he would periodically hold "Name Your Own Cocktail Nights," marathon sessions where he invented drinks given based on names the bar clientele made-up.
In theory, Eddie kept a book of these recipes, which was donated to the Bar after his death. Because I am disgusting and lazy, I haven't actually created such a recipe list, but for the nonce I thought people might like links to the original Name Your Own threads.
The First
The Second
The Third
The Fourth
The Last
If nothing else, it's a trip down memory lane for us oldbies. And for anyone contemplating resurrecting the tradition, I basically used Webtender to find similarly-named drinks and form a fusion or extrapolation. And yes, many of them would be unnecessarily complex or disgusting, and Eddie's encyclopedic knowledge of drinks was a little much, even given that he had nothing to do but study the manuals behind the bar. (Another useful bit of millicanon for you...) But it was fun!
I'll try to find time to put together a more convenient list of names and recipes and post it later on.
ETA: Oh, score. I did in fact write up the recipes from the first night, back at the time, and they are here.
