I don't know if it's Izzard's bit, but my brother told me this story where JFK (or someone) was in Germany, and in a show of solidarity, told the assembled German people "Ich bin ein Berlinner" (although the spelling may have been different) -- Which unfortunately translates to "I am a jelly doughnut."
