Daily Entertainment.

What's your favorite little thing about the holiday season (if you have one)?

Right now, it's Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark chocolates. OMG so tasty. Basically any combination of peppermint and chocolate.

Tell me yours! Also have meeting this morning, so will not be terribly active until the afternoon.

Also, mods? Would it be possible to get a 'daily entertainment' tag inna backroom? :D?

ETA: Kate! How dare you? :D!!!!

ETA again: Go stalk Kate in hers below as well - apparently people get bored in the UK too. *shock*

Mayhaps a bit of education is in order.

It's a form of potato pancake where the potato is shredded, mixed with with eggs and (according to some) onions and other flavors, and fried. In theory, you can also make a latke using boiled or mashed potatoes, but it's not the same.

Thank you. But there are infinite variations, too, and let's not forget how everyone who makes latkes will tell you that THEIR latkes are the best in the world, and be totally RIGHT.

Because the laws of probabilities don't apply to people who make latkes.

Are you kidding me? Find a Jewish friend with decent culinary skills, and hie thee to the store for some apple sauce and sour cream to go along as garnish! You don't have to be Jewish to be able to cook good latkes, but it certainly helps.

You can't go through life and not experience exotic and delicious Jewish cultural cuisine! What about hamantaschen?

Mmmm, latkes.

I actually prefer hamantaschen. I like a good latke, but so much oil and starch at once - usually one big serving Saturday night with Batya's family and one Sunday with my brother's family - is not good for me. Whereas dough and jam is much healthier.

I like both! My mom's latkes never come out greasy, either - she's like the Iron Chef of latke making. She has it down to an exact science, calculating temperature-to-mass differentials and she'll snatch the pan off the stove if the oil deviates even 0.0000232 degrees Fahrenheit from her optimum latke frying range.

I'm a vegan, so latkes I can indulge in (vegan latkes, of course). I never have to worry about cholesterol and such, which is why I can easily polish off half a dozen latkes and then just go...run it off the next morning!
