Since it appears I'm gonna be working late that night, my plans involve the feast of St. Mark Downs instead. Celebrated four times a year, on February 15th, Easter Monday, November 1st and December 26th, the feast of St. Mark Downs is a day for buying arseloads of candy at half off the original price and sticking it in your freezer for use at a later date.

Because while the day has lost most of Christian connections, religious Jews don't observe it. And the coincidental choice of Feb. 14 as the date of Batya's sister's wedding (as it was on a date they wanted on the Jewish calendar) only served to drive up flower prices.

That said, look for Knox and Rapunzel's sweet little OOM tomorrow. He's such a mush sometimes.

Pink Barbie sprinkles (shut up, my mom sent them to me)
A spoon.

(I say 'a spoon,' but I am sure it will turn into multiple spoons. There are many single-and-depressed-about-it people in this apartment.)

My plans are scattered. I am a hopeless romantic, and love the idea of a day I get to play love fairy, so....

My card to my grandmother already went off. My one for my mother will be dropped off in the mail box tonight. I have one each for both my best friend and the girl who has been like a sister in heart this year (also adding a silver ornament). For my graduate class I bought a box of little kid fold-sticker Marvel cards, which I'll hand out during class. (---because, oh yes. I am at school on that day. Class in the midday and class until nine-thirty)

....and just maybe I will be putting a card and a rose under the windsheild wiper of a boy I really like in the am hours so that he will find it when he leaves for work. Along with one or two other small gifts.....and the possiblity of going to see Definitely, Maybe between classes.

And maybe playing part of Marian's dead time. Maybe, maybe.

Mom and I are deliberately doing the most anti-Valentine's Day things we can think up, since we're both single and mildly bitter women. Alas, my half-joking suggestions of laser tag and/or NASCAR got voted down, so we're ordering in a pepperoni pizza instead.

Whether this plan will also include explosion-filled action movies remains to be determined.

My Valentine's Day will be spent many miles from my SO. I'm teaching near Sacramento this week, and she's stuck in snowy Chicago.

HOWEVER!

She's flying out on Friday morning, and we're going to do Napa and San Fran over a long Valentine's weekend. Winery tours on Saturday, Golden Gate Park and Fisherman's Wharf stuff on Sunday. Inspired scheduling on my part y/y?

Just to be DIFFERENT, apparently, my boyfriend and I are making a fancy dinner together -

(brie, prosciutto and pear slices as an appetizer; I... forget the main course, that's his department; something involving cocoa and strawberries for desert)

- and we are going to eat it over candlelight while giving each other EMBARRASSING and ADORABLE glances, and then we are going to MELT CHOCOLATE and LICK IT OFF EACH OTHER'S BODIES.

In the evening, I'll be going to Wilson College's dinner-and-travelogue (this time, Vietnam) presentation, which would have been held Tuesday night if she hadn't snowed so. (If that had been able to happen on Tuesday, I'd have been trying to get to the Tilman-Sinclair wedding; as it is, I can only hope one of the attendees posts pictures, or better yet video, after the event.)

We don't really celebrate V-Day. Sometimes we remember to get cards for each other, but mostly we wait and celebrate our anniversary, which is March 17th.

V-Day is a Hallmark holiday. Feh.
