Longest overdue intro post in the history of ever
So. I've been a Milliplayer for months now, and not only have I had very little time for actual gameplay, I have completely forgotten to join here and get talking to all you wonderful people.
I'm a tentatively shy mun playing mostly extrovert pups all over LJ (post season 5 Lorne from Angel: The Series and Gabriel, as crazed and cryptic as ever, from Constantine, in Milliways) and while my free time seems to steadily diminish, I'll gladly spend as much time as I possibly can, rping and making up grand stories with lovely strangers.
Also, for the Whedon pups and their players out there, I seem to miss every last one of your posts, for which I blame only the curse of living in very different time zones. I would like very much to get involved with the Whedonverse side of things, as playing Lorne is one of my favourite pastimes, but he's only so much fun on his lonesome.
With that in mind, what little I have read of the different comics he's featured in, including the newest batch where Whedon's had a big say in things... Oh, dear. I don't want to blurb out spoilers, so that's all I'll say in an open post. Oh, dear.
And on that note, I have seriously thought over where I want Lorne to be, timeline wise, in regards to the MilliWhedon crew.
Yes, he's in New York. Maybe he's even been there as long, if not longer, than the others.
...yes, I need plot like the air I breathe. Why do you ask?

In other news, having just watched Firefly and Serenity in semi-coherent stretches over the last week or so (for the second time), yay for Mal! :DDD Damn, but I love Firefly.
this comment is not in any way constructive
Um, that is all.
Re: this comment is not in any way constructive
But, anyhoo, to summarize. Buffy yay! <3 Lorne likes you already, and please don't think it's creepy I'm talking about him like a living breathing person! :D
And that is all from me.

Also: GLEE. Plot can be plotted.

And, to capslockinate a bit more, YAY PLOT OMG! Also, it's good to chat with you again, batya.
no subject
We shall confer! There will be conferring! Possibly even ... a conference!
... yeah it's lateish and I'm punchy. :)

In other news, my trusted old compy is on the fritz, again, and seeing as I'm on an even older computer now, I fear installing any of my pretty pretty messenger thingamajigs.
So. How to confer? I have MSN on this one, but that's about it. :3
no subject
Can your computer handle meebo? If so, and if you've got an AIM handle, you can ping me at batyathetoon.
Alternately, we could just use the LJ message feature?

So, I recently found out (and I'm not sure why I didn't know this already), that in French, Tom Marvolo Riddle is called Tom Elvis Jedusor.
Yes, Elvis.
Something must be done with this factoid. Perhaps Lorne can help! *giggles*
no subject
My guess is he has. Suspended in great, looming suspense. Because Lorne may be a great many things, but of all things, he is a pop-culture-vore. And, while harmless, the subtextual homoerotica is hilarious.
...I am stil boggling at 'Elvis'. Give me a minute, please.
no subject
Yes, take a minute on the Elvis. It's MIND-BOGGLING!

It's always good to know about such things, though. Canon-puncture status, I mean, as I see the Whedonverse Earth as contemporary Earth, with all that entails, good and bad, and there are a loooot of fandoms there that Lorne most probably has picked up on.
But he's a good sport, most of the time. And while he might think it's absolutely fabu to meet, say, Spiderman (Lorne: "Be still my heart, did you SEE that boy in those movies? Hubba hubba zoot zoot, darling!"), he won't go "So, Spidey, what's your thoughts on that last issue of yours?"
...he might, in all honesty, want to dish on that whole thing about Spidey and MJ not being married all of a sudden, but that's just the gossip in him. >_> And I'm rambling. Sorry!

And thank you! I'm glad to be here. So glad I had to give Lorne another couple of icons. With smiles

I've been wanting to find (good, wholesome, sane) Whedonverse players for years, literally. ~is swooning~

And yay Lorne!!! He is probably my favorite character from Angel.

I totally agree, though. Whedon can throw some really mind-blowing punches sometimes. Oh, dearie me.

better late than never! <3
You play River, may I presume? :3 We should thread. In fact, I want threads with all of you, one day or the other.
However, as fast as I try to be at tagging people with replies, time zones tend to be a hassle for me, as I'm way over here at GMT+ 01:00. But I'm sure we can work something out. :D?
Re: better late than never! <3
One thing I love about Milliways (and, okay, any panfandom game really) is that you don't need any elaborate crossovery excuse to have two characters from different worlds talk. They're both in the bar! Okay, go! (That said, River's visited Andrew's version of the Buffyverse a time or two...)
And I am a crazy night owl and also entirely happy with slowtiming, so we can definitely work something out. :D!
no subject
On the crazy night owl thing: Ooh, yay!
One of the things I was really looking forward to about the aforementioned crossover game was Lorne meeting River, actually. I could just see them giving each other well-meaning migraines, both of them being empaths of a sort.
Now that I see it in plain writing, it doesn't seem all that awesome, but I swear, in my head, it rocks.
We should definitely sic them at each other, 's all I'm saying. :3

And ahahaha. No, I get what you mean! And tossing River at other psychic types is always fun. Well, it's always fun for me -- not necessarily for her, but I am okay with that. *serene*
no subject
So, when they meet, we play it by ear, or set down some ground rules? Like, say, limits to what the one snatches up about the other (from wherever it is they get their vision-y awesome)? Personally, I love playing things by ear, but structure is nice, too.
no subject
In terms of ground rules, I'm okay with pretty much anything in terms of what's picked up, really. He can see whatever you want, miss whatever you want -- about the only caveats I have are that a) I can never guarantee she won't freak out depending on what he says and how the thread goes, and b) if you want to do anything like put things into her head or create a situation she can't easily escape from, please do either ask first or give me an easy way to contact you while we're threading.
For River's part, I am happy to try to have her pick up or miss anything in particular that you want her to. :) (And for the record, I've seen some of AtS, but my knowledge of it isn't comprehensive. Yet. I am slowly working on this!) In general, I figure she's picking up on a fair amount that she isn't saying in any given thread, but I will keep what exactly that is ambiguous until a thread requires otherwise and/or you give me specific permission to have her know something in particular. Oh hey, and do let me know if he has any psychic shields or inherent demon-y mental defenses or anything else that might affect how much she senses from him.
Beyond a basic "hey, her psychicness works this way and you can contact me by this method if the thread throws us any major curveballs," I am totally good with playing things by ear. :D And really, I'm pretty much good with whatever so long as you're good with River reacting ICly to it. If I minded guarding my character's mental privacy or having her get stressed out, I would not play River Tam.
(Oh, and, for the record: AIM is Zebosity, email is ep_birdsall AT yahoo DOT com, I've never used the LJ messenger thingo but I'm happy to give it a try, and OOC comments dropped into a thread also are wonderful things.)

Some brief pointers on Lorne, then, in the hopes of filling in any gaps you may have. As far as his empathic abilities go, Lorne can only take in things about other people. He can't actually project anything onto or into anyone else (unless for some reason or other he goes without sleep for several weeks, at which point he starts to subconsciously project fates/fortunes, as opposed to just reading them), which is all well and good, because he has no interest in mind control. Primarily, as it is presented in canon, he can only read people's hearts/fortunes/fate if they sing to him, or somewhere closeby enough for him to hear them. Later on in the show (when the writers got bored writing bad karaoke skits and scenes, I bet), it was revealed that Lorne doesn't actually need you to sing your heart out. If you're really, really feeling something very strongly, he can read you. I'm thinking, just as an example; if River were to freak out in the bar and he's there? That would be a system failure/blue screen of death just waiting to happen on his end.
But, anyway. River not being IC wouldn't be River at all. In fact, that goes without saying. Her freaking out is A OK, if you ever feel that is where she's heading. Also, ambiguity in threads is for teh win.
One thing River might sense is that Lorne used to be a much happier camper back in the day. Maybe not way back in the day, but not too long ago. Nowadays, though, he's closing off from the world more and more. No more fighting the good fight. No more karaoke. No more reading fortunes
though he might make exceptions. A lot more alcohol than a regular human would be able to consume without toppling over and not get up again. And these are just suggestions. Make stuff up! Go nuts!At the moment, e-mail and LJ messaging will probably work best for me, seeing as my computer is on the mend, and the old, ooold thing I'm using now will quite possibly fry if I try installing any more programs. >_> Silly things, computers.
I TOLD YOU I CAN BE LONG-WINDED TOO. Only I didn't, not with so many words. :3
no subject
Awesome! I think this is plenty for playing by ear, and I shall keep an eye out for you and for Lorne. *beams* And you can always toss him into a post of hers for insta-slowtime, if that ends up being best with time zones.
no subject
And it's past my bedtime, I'm afraid. I'll catch you later, and have a good one. :3 It was very good chatting with you.
no subject
And yeah, I am compulsive about memorying all my threads, too, with all my characters. It has wound up being very useful upon occasion.

She may well be, uh, startled. But she tends to get over that relatively quickly. Milliways gives one lots of practice at that kind of thing.
