Daily Entertainment.

Am I the only equally excited to see 'Mamma Mia' in theaters as I am to see 'Iron Man'?

Also, a bit of news: on NPR this morning, they were talking about a Senegalese Al-Qaeda operative named Iroh.

According to several of my Senegalese friends, a common monniker of respect is 'Uncle'.

There you go.

I have coupons to go see a free advance screening of Prince Caspian downtown tonight, but I don't think I can make it! :(

I'm as equally excited. But that's because, despite being a comic book geek, I really don't have much sense that Iron Man is actually about anything. Never mind that I am a DC fan at heart and get annoyed that Marvel has so many projects out there and DC has Batman and nothing else any time soon.

J. Michael Straczynski is writing a Silver Surfer film for Marvel. After Requiem, aka the best story Marvel has done in the last ten years, I'm wavering between excitement and terror.

There's also a Luke Cage film in development, and at one point Ray Park was going to play Iron Fist against Beyonce's Misty Knight.

Lessee, what else. The three Wolverine films, of course, and Gambit's been definitively cast now for said trio.

I don't know what happened to talk of Tom Felton being cast as Pietro Maximoff.

IRON MAN. There's Oscar buzz for Robert Downey Jr.'s performance in this film as of two weeks ago, and every single one of my friends the world over that's seen it thus far at sneak previews/advance press screenings/etc. is calling it the best film they've seen in years. This is from people whose idea of an exciting film night is watching old Satyajit Ray films. Don't get me wrong, Ray is brilliant, but when people who hate superhero films call you up screaming excitedly at 3:00 AM to tell you that the Iron Man film ROCKS, you KNOW something's been done right.

I hope they're not wrong. Go, Tony, go!

Plus, Terence Howard as Jim "War Machine" Rhodes. Oh my God, oh my God.

So, in conclusion, Iron Man owns my soul for the next week. Everything else cinematic is going to have to temporarily recede onto the cultural horizon.

Edit: Because so many people at Milliways are tea fanatics like me, please enjoy Sir Elemental's steampunkish Neo-Victorian tea rap:

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I WANT TO SEE IRON MAN SO BAD.

None of my roommates will go with me tonight, though, because they are lame and want to see a LATE LATE LATE show, and the local theatre is showing Iron Man at 8 and 9 tonight, but no midnight showing. I have yet to understand how this works, considering that the movie doesn't officially open til tomorrow, but I'm not bitter!

So we're going to see Harold and Kumar instead. Which I want to see! But it is not Iron Man. :(

Also, I am not really excited for Mamma Mia; sorry, Steph. *pats*

So apropos of absolutely nothing, I'm rather proud of this explanation of Milliways I just wrote in [livejournal.com profile] mixed_muses:

"If it makes you feel better," a little dryly, "I could tell you that you walked through an semi-stable portal in the fabric of space and time that's dumped you into an interstitial pocket universe that happens to contain a bar."

Heh. Interstitial.

Y'know what would be a fun topic sometime? How your character conceives of/rationalizes/explains the bar.

*flops* I have not very much invested in either Iron Man or Mamma Mia, say sorry. Mamma Mia looks like fun, though, if only for the cast. Meryl Streep! Amanda Seyfried! Pierce Brosnan!

Uncle Iroh! AWESOME.

Given the name, I will assume and trust (in my own little happy world for the moment, free of reality) that he is no more actually an al-Qaeda operative than Iroh is actually all FIRE LORD RA RA RA. This is a perfectly valid basis for judgment, right? Right.

I did not even know there was a Mamma Mia movie! Hee. Cool. I shall add that to the list of movies I have a vague intention of seeing sometime, which Iron Man is also on. I may or may not ever get around to them, but this is a hazard with movies and me in general.

This weekend's excitement for me is a dance ball. Which my parents are visiting for. This is nice, as I like my parents! The downside is that ahaha tonight we vacuum. Yes.

I'm interested in seeing the Mamma Mia movie, as I like musicals and I like ABBA, but have never seen the ABBA musical. I know enough about the plot that I considered doing Mia's wedding as a tribute to it. After the fact. >.> It's partly because of the reference to ABBA being Ghaleon's favorite band.

The movie I'm really interested in seeing?

Speed Racer

Because it makes me feel nostalgic. XD

As with many others, I just saw Iron Man too. RDJ really is sex on legs in my eyes. Me love him long time.

When is Mamma Mia out over in US? Over here, it's not out till July, and I really wanna see it. Mmm Stellan Skarsgard and Julie Walters.
