Entertainment without MuJi: Day One.

Please state the nature of the Entertainment Emergency
Canon Squee Post is Go
Name of canon in subject lines: skip over the ones you don't want to be spoiled for.

Alternatively: I just posted a pup into the bar for the first time in I don't know how long. Talk to me about long absences you've had, and why, and how you overcame them. Or what your pups have been up to since the last time they talked to one of mine.

Iron Man, Legion, Manhunter, X-Factor, Lost, blah blah blah

Iron Man - Fraction's Invincible Iron Man miniseries is a good attempt to mesh movie!Tony and comic!Tony without compromising the jerk factor of either.

Legion - I've been starting to read older Legion stuff lately. The Legion's always intimidated me because they've been through five reboots, but the awesome factor here is too large to ignore. Despite Jim Shooter's really creepy and totally age inappropriate thing that he just did with Saturn Girl.

Manhunter - Because Manhunter's being started up again after a long hiatus, I've been reading the trades again and basking in Kate's saucy and slighly incompetent glory.

X-Factor - PIETRO, PIETRO, PIETRO.

Lost - AAAAAGH!

As for muses on hiatus, both of my main muses have been on long hiatuses of one sort or another. She-Hulk because she went through a huge transition in canon and I had to wait to see how that would play out before I posted her in bar again, then I realized that she hadn't posted in bar in forever and screw it, no one would remember her anyway so why post? It all snowballed from there.

Hawkgirl's been on semi-hiatus since work got insane and for the above "oh, god, it's been so long, will anyone even remember her?" thing, although Adiva dragged my ass into plot, which has been kickstarting me to write her again.

She's from current canon, about three issues behind current JLA.

Dinah would be awesome. Kendra barely gets to interact with any DC characters except for SV!Clark. She's on a freakin' team with Dinah back home so it would be awesomecakes with coconut frosting if another JLA member was in bar.

I just pick and choose from current canon what to use. I like current canon except for the clusterfuck with Roy and Kendra, so I ignore that. That's my philosophy: canon is there to pick the good stuff from, and the bad is ignored. Kendra's sadly underused in current canon, but I can pirate off of other DC titles to give her fun stuff to reference and work with.

Actually, I liked that bit. See, them having a sort of Katherine Hepburn/Cary Grant (except with more smashing) faux antagonistic chemistry is fine with me, as long as it's platonic. Anything other than that? Oh, honey, NO. Johns, Palmiotti, and Simonson spent a long time having Kendra and Carter finally find their way to each other and consummate their five thousand year long OTP relationship, and then Meltzer undid it all in one issue of the JLA.

There aren't many similarities between Kendra and Dinah other than the birds in their nomenclature and them both being asskicking heroines, so I never thought of Roy and Kendra mirroring Dinah and Ollie. There's more of a Romeo and Juliet aspect to Kendra and Roy due to the obviously long running Hawk/Arrow war between Ollie and Carter. But given how obsessed Meltzer is with both father/son themes AND with with throwing gasoline on the fire of the Hawk/Arrow Wars, I'm not surprised that he ignored the established continuity of THREE different writers and tried to force Kendra and Roy together.

Besides, there really is not Hawk/Arrow war anymore. It's a fabricated divide that isn't supported by much recent canon.

Superficially it can read as "Oh, wow, Roy has a pretty birdy of his own." But when you get to know the characters or if you know continuity, yeah, as you said, it's not a good mirror. But Meltzer's IDIOTIC manfacturing of hostility over Roy between Dinah and Kendra was SO freakin' out of character for both of Dinah and Kendra, and McDuffie rightly just ignored that when he took over the JLA book. Dinah and Kendra got along fine in the JSA book, in fact if anything Dinah was a nurturing older sister/surrogate mom friend to Kendra when she was having a very difficult time in the latter part of Johns' JSA, someone that consistently reached out to Kendra and befriended her (along with Courtney and Sand, of course), so I've never seen the two of them as being remotely catty with each other.

But then, that gets into male writers that can't conceive of anything other than a two speed overly simplistic relationship between two female characters, meaning that they're either being bitches to each other for 1) no discernible reason and/or 2) being bitchy to each other over a man.

Oh, and JSA

OH, and Geoff Johns JSA? Johns is great on team books. He has a love for nostalgia sometimes, but that didn't manifest so much in his early JSA, and oh MAN does Hourman kick a TON OF ASS in that book.
