According to the novelization, it is! Just A Really Very Intelligent System, or something like that; I can't remember it exactly off the top of my head, but it's very silly. JARVIS looks strange to me, which is why I go for the name without the allcaps. Also, they spelled it with lowercase letters in the book, which is obviously not the end-all be-all of canon (even if I really, really wish some of it had made it into the movie), but makes me feel better about justifying my spelling. :D

Well, also, in the comics isn't there a human butler named Jarvis? Just in one of the universes he's an AI for the house.

ALSO there are definitely a few things in the Serenity novel (HAHAHAHAH MAL/INARA LULZ) that I wish would've made it into the movie.

Yep! He is a human in the comics. When I said 'book' I meant 'silly novelization of the movie'; specifics are for squares, clearly! *rueful*

... WAIT REALLY? THERE IS MAL/INARA IN THE NOVEL? HOT CRAP. I MIGHT ACTUALLY HAVE TO GET THIS NOW, LIKE I WAS THREATENING TO.

There's about as much Mal/Inara as there is in the comics + TV show, but there was a definite necessity for a couple of these scenes that didn't make it into the movie.

(Example: Remember Mal/Inara 'truthsome', post-Nandi in 'Heart of Gold'? There's another scene like that.)

Ahaaa. I follow! Yeah, another Mal/Inara scene or two definitely would have been nice. There was, what, the temple, and then the scene where they argue kind of viciously on Serenity and -- man, I can't remember any others.

I don't -- hmm. I don't know if I have. It's been ages since I've seen the movie; it scarred my psyche/my emotional well-being far too much to make re-watching a habit. (Several batches of my roommates worked through the entire series and then the movie, and I would watch right up through "Objects in Space" and then run awayyyy. >_>) I should check that out!

I love that the one remaining shot of the shuttle scene in the movie is Mal post-Serenity-reaverizing and he's running his hand through his hair and he's all shaky and shit?

This is what I'd done with it.

Naturally, when the DVD came out and I realize he's staring at Inara in that scene, I laughed. In that way where I went FU JOSS.

God, I miss Serenityplot. *sigh* It was fun, because Mal'd been doing so well neuroses-wise pre-movie, and then I saw the movie and went "...Crap. How the hell do I get him that fucked up in two months?"

I should be ashamed of how easy it was.
