Thaaaaaaaaat's Hellblazer! You should see what he did to his father!

And of course there's his niece Gemma (Cheryl's daughter), who has taken the Constantine name and seems fated (doomed?) to be the latest in the long line of Constantine shit-stirring mages -- despite (because of?) John's efforts to keep her from doing so.

That's okay, it's pretty fuckin' convoluted anyway. Let's just say that one of John's first deliberate acts of magic was to put a horrible deadly curse on his father; decades later it came back to bite him on the arse, as magic tends to do.

You need to see Cam's Hogblazer fics.

Nah, nothing in the Hellblazer universe is that clean or easy. The curse involved a fresh cat heart in a box, for one thing...

A major point in John's world is that magic is dangerous, tainting and very, very messy. It's like a chainsaw: you can use it for positive purposes, but there's always the possibility that things will go massively wrong, and it's far more likely that you'll hurt bystanders, cut off your own foot and destroy the thing you were trying to create.
