Daily Entertainment.

ZOMG Random.

Am I the only one really jazzed to see WALL-E? Is my inner AI house showing? >_>;;

I am, for the most part, a Pixar fanatic. They do the best digital animation of anyone, they put story ahead of gimmick, they rarely hire Big Names (as DreamWorks always does) and stick with the right actor for the job, and John Lasseter is a visionary who love all kinds of animation. I swear by Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, and The Incredibles.

And yet, WALL-E doesn't grab me yet. I know I will see it at some point (unlike Cars, the one Pixar film that I find zero interest in). The animation looks amazing as usual. And unlike Ratatouille, this one looks like it will be a great family film. But until I get a sense that there is a strong story here and not just a lot of Chaplinesque humor followed by a space chase, I can't say for sure that I will go see it on the big screen.

All that said, Pixar on a bad day is still far better than any other American animation. So if you are jazzed for WALL-E, you will probably love it.

I don't really like stories with Messages very much. I usually find them cloying and able only to preach to the converted.

Which is the part I am waiting to hear about. A romance between two non-verbal robots could go wrong with ease. Then again, a film about a rat who handles food could have been terrible and Brad Bird - with the exception of Bruce Timm the single best living American animator - made it work perfectly. So there's no reason not to have faith in Pixar.

I'm just skeptical sometimes.

I would stay away from opening day for this one. It will be wall to wall kids, I suspect.

Though a Pixar film seen through a Percocet haze might be interesting.

CARS blew cracked camshafts, man. I was so disappointed. I tend to love Pixar (in fact, I know people that work there, since they're located really close to my work), but every now and then they fall flat.

That being said, GO JOHN CARTER OF MARS! Hurry up, Pixar. I can't freakin' wait to see what they do with those films. Will Dejah Thoris be entirely nude? Will Tars Tarkas have to cut a bitch? Will the city of Helium be rendered with the grandeur that it deserves?
