Daily Entertainment.

Lots of questions today, folks:

1. Are you associated with or have you been associated with any other RPGs? Were they OCs or fandom or what? Do you mod any?
2. How in the world do some of you keep game-histories separated when playing the same character in two different games? Like, I would love to play Mal in as many games I could get him in, but then he'd start calling himself 'mu ji' and that would end badly. :(
3. Finally, has anyone ever read The Legend of Nightfall by Mickey Zucker Reichert? My co-worker lent it to me and the cover is scary. D:

ETA: *eyerolls* Silly coworkers. AFK for...at least a couple of hours.

Well!

I play occasionally in [livejournal.com profile] shatterverse, but only one character, and none that I have here, so it's easy to keep seperate. I played briefly in Aphar, but only with an intended redshirt, so nothing really happened there.

The other game, [livejournal.com profile] theinternetcafe, I play Jack again. It's theoretically first-person-centric (although I'm having massive difficulty playing him like that - he's too secretive) but we do do logs. The biggest difference is that he's at a different place in canon - almost up to date, in fact. (IMAGINE THAT. JUST IMAGINE IT.) Also, there's AU activity - they recruited another member of Torchwood recently, that helps. Finally, it being a much smaller game helps, too. Much easier to remember who's who when Jack barely talks to anyone.

1. I got my LJ RP start at [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh almost three years ago. I still play there and I've added: [livejournal.com profile] milieux_village, [livejournal.com profile] hearts_andminds and [livejournal.com profile] dizzy_land. I'm also in a handful of games over on InsaneJournal.

2. Right now the only characters I play multiple versions of is Veronica Mars and her Milieux persona is an older, AU version of her FH persona, which makes keeping backstory straight pretty easy.

I do mod one game on IJ that is currently on hiatus, but will hopefully be getting a re-boot and re-start in the next month or so, assuming my co-mods and I have the time. It's a post-apoc game set in Boston. Additionally, I'm the OCD Queen at Milieux - basically I keep lots of lists and spreadsheets of data but I'm not a mod.

3. No, I've never even heard of it.

1. I've been in three previous RPGs. All Harry Potter ones and I co-created/was mod of one of the games.
2. I've never played the same character in two different games. I think I'd get too confused. I can barely keep up with their canon histories sometimes.
3. Unfortunately not, but I see what you mean about the cover.

1. Ha! I've played at [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh, [livejournal.com profile] milieux_ecole (and do currently), [livejournal.com profile] polychromatic (and sorta fail at doing so currently), and for a teeeeny tiny while, over at [livejournal.com profile] dizzy_land. I modded at [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh for a bit, and am currently half in charge of [livejournal.com profile] milieux_ecole. All are pan-fandomy games.

2. Oh man. I've never managed to play a character simultaneously in two games. I actually have different characters at every game. Sometimes, if I drop a character at one game, I may eventually pick one up elsewhere (I've done this with... Ash Williams, Thelma Bates, and now Cassie Lang). But simul-playing would huuuuurt my brain.

3. Alas, I have not.

1. Yes. Online, I play in [livejournal.com profile] shatterverse, and have also been known in [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh and [livejournal.com profile] apharsites (I modded Aphar). I tried to start one, but it didn't really take, though I'm keeping the communities just in case. Shatter takes OC's - I have 3 - but also fandom - I have, uh, lots.

2. Usually by bringing characters in at different points, or by letting the histories diverge considerably. Shatter!Mel never went through canon, found herself a husband and had babies, so is by now a completely different (if similar) character to Milli!Mel. Shatter!Dinah is a 35 year old woman, and Milli!Dinah is 15. The most similar versions of a same character has been all my different versions of Claire Bennet, but they didn't really overlap, timewise, and I just reset when I needed to.
Having different journals helps sometimes, but I find it no harder to tell [livejournal.com profile] fightdontcry from [livejournal.com profile] raptorcanaria than I do [livejournal.com profile] skyhighlucy and [livejournal.com profile] aka_guardi

Uh, sometimes I still get confused.

One RPG is already more than enough for me. Others I've found just have a confusing set up (read: I'm lazy) or I'm just not interested. I've gotten kind of used to this one. I'd like to do more in [livejournal.com profile] mixed_muses, maybe, but I don't have a lot of time, and already have too many characters here (and I axed it to three! yeesh).

I started out with several characters at [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse, but A) I sucked at keeping up with the prompts, and B) I sucked in general, so that was the end of that. I played Plourr and Maya in [livejournal.com profile] street_eden back when it was still active, and I never really had a problem telling versions of the characters apart. Of course, it helped that it was [livejournal.com profile] somanyghosts vs. [livejournal.com profile] fighting_mad, and that she was bald and angry in one game and pregnant and ... still angry, but with lots of hair! in the other, but -- I don't know; I've never had issues keeping characters separate like that. They're different games, different histories. I can't really comprehend getting them confused.

Right now, I technically play in [livejournal.com profile] shatterverse and am going to in [livejournal.com profile] outpost_12, though I fail and haven't actually posted in either yet. I'm playing Rhodey in Shatterverse and Seeley Booth from Bones in both games. I don't usually pick up unique pups, I guess! When I get fond of a character, I like playing them all over the place; it doesn't have to be just one game.

Ahahaha. I have tried, in the past, to do multiple games at once, but I seem to be a serial monogamist when it comes to RP: I can only handle one at a time.

My very first game was one I created and modded, actually! Which, ha, was a wise way to get into it. *g* [livejournal.com profile] kit_kat_klub is still going... cripes, five years later? That's bonkers. Then I did [livejournal.com profile] xenogenetic, and then [livejournal.com profile] phoenixchilde and I did X-Axis, an X-Men powerswap AU over at GJ. There were a few other games I tried to get into, but they always got shunted to the side if they didn't come first. Then Milliways happened and, well. The rest is history!

Once upon a time I was going to try and start [livejournal.com profile] thecoastof, but I never got farther than making the comm.

1. I'm associated with a few other RPGs. In one of them actually right now I'm having some really huge issues. Not like wank bullshit... like... a couple of muns I was really close to when the game was at its peak literally disappeared one day, and two days ago I found them, and I guess since we were really close I managed to contact them and get a reply and a reason for their disappearance that is kinda really a big thing to know and now I have to decide who to tell it to, if anybody, and..... SDJFHGBWOABGFAOUDBHGFVAKJHFDBV this is really fucked-up and hard. ;_; k I'm done whining now. I have other OTHER RPs that don't have as much baggage with them and are just fun, and other other OTHER rps that are dead now but OMG SO FULL OF CRACK.

Here look learn about the astounding wonder that was MESPT and why no other game will ever equal its epicness. (http://gethenian.livejournal.com/235557.html)

2. How? Um.... I dunno, it's just always kinda come naturally to me. Like, I know PERFECTLY well in my own mind where the separation between games is for stuff that Miniver does. I also knew EXACTLY where the line was for Gorlim, always. I can't explain HOW I keep them separate. I just... do. I dunno, a LOT of my characters are involved in multiple universes simultaneously with varying degrees of crossover. I've never really had to keep track of how they're different, my mind does it automatically.

3. No.

1. I've been associated with a good lot of RPGs. I started playing in MESPT, as mentioned by Ven above, and branched out into other Tolkien based games like Sinyamar on GJ. I also started two games on my own, one fairy tale based and one Arthurian based, but neither really gained much steam. At the moment, I dabble in [livejournal.com profile] dear_multiverse and [livejournal.com profile] sixwordstories when I'm bored, and I'm technically mod/co-creator of [livejournal.com profile] shatterverse. Technically. >.>

2. It's hard. I still have to go back and re-read stuff to make sure I've got the right continuity/timeline. I've got about 6 different versions of Clark around, and I do get confused occasionally. I also play another version of Melou elsewhere and that's trips me up as well sometimes. Mostly, I just memory everything and try to go back and find the pertinent information if it comes up.

3. Nope, sorry.

1. Yes. Lots. I started at Neopets aged thirteen. There were RPs in board, there were RPs in comms, there were soley chat RPs...M'ways is the first one I played with fandom characters. All the rest were OCs and I actually prefer OCs. Currently I'm in M'ways. And Shatter - where I have a mix of OC and fandom characters, and technically two other places, both OCs, but one I'm tempted to leave and the other I think we're poking it back to life.

2. Sometimes, I can't. Sometimes, I can. The easiest thing for me to do is bring them in from different points - Medusa in M'ways is post-curse, Medusa in Shatter is the equivalint of sixteen and pre-curse. Things like that.

Keeping story universes straight in my head is far easier - I say 'Mordred', and instantly know which of the...four? five? I have running around in my head, and his world and relationships. Same with the three Medusas I have - M'ways, Shatter, and my purely North African one.

3. Never heard of it, or the author.

Morningstar Manor, formerly at GJ, now at IJ. The setting is a very haunted apartment building owned by the devil, and it's all OCs. I started my LJ-rping days at [livejournal.com profile] discworld_rpg, which lasted until basically the entire population came over to Milliways. Even earlier than that I did some PBeM roleplaying, and to be honest I still get the urge sometimes. Hard to find good ones, and the one I used to be a part of pretty much dissolved into wank and lost half its players. Highly inconvenient, game! *shakes fist*

Nowadays I also theoretically play at [livejournal.com profile] shatterverse.

I've never done a fully-OC game, but I've done OCs-in-a-fandom-setting sorts of games, if that makes sense. I've never tried doubling up characters, unless you count co-writing Elle in Milliways and also sorta co-writing her in Shatterverse... I don't think I'd have a problem doing it, except that I'd probably continually pine over all of the character development I'd dumped when restarting them in a new place. But I rarely pick up new characters in general, and partly because of that same feeling, so there you go.

When it comes to LJ RPs, I started myself off in [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse muse, way back when the world was first being created or something. And these days, seeing as I am naughty and have barely been paying attention to Milliways for the last few weeks or more, I've been distracting myself with [livejournal.com profile] thisisarea42 and a beloved Torchwood comm that I've belonged to for several years by the name of [livejournal.com profile] twood_hub, it's good for the crack and has sucha tiny member list that we're all good ooc friends, which is really what I need.

A long time ago I used to be on other games, but by and large I put most of them aside to concentrate on this one. It's easier than getting my brain eaten by two highly demanding games at once (and a really good game tends to come across to me as highly demanding).

I make occasional forays to other games, though.

1. Milliways was my first. I tried out Charlie and some other characters in [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh and [livejournal.com profile] otherways. Jack Green actually started in [livejournal.com profile] divinsanity, but that game's been dead for years. I have a character in [livejournal.com profile] handfulof_dust, which is an OC game, but I don't play there much: I don't think I can RP original characters very well. And I was in [livejournal.com profile] theoneagency for a few months, but it was hard to follow: everything happened in AIM and nobody posted their logs. V. frustrating. I've messed around in [livejournal.com profile] mixed_muses and [livejournal.com profile] defy_ka. I'm currently just in Mways and [livejournal.com profile] theinternetcafe: just passed my 1-year anniversary for that a few months ago. I tried out Ianto in a bunch of different games when I first started playing him and TIC is the one that stuck.

Oh, and I've also played tabletop D&D, which is a whole 'nother animal.

2. I don't think I've had a problem with it when I've had multiple versions of characters: I tend to start from the same place and then their game-canons diverge, so what's fundamentally them remains the same. I play Ianto in both Mways and TIC, and I'm starting to notice bigger differences between them than I expected. Mways-Ianto is younger, has more canon backstory and is darker and more screwed-up than TIC Ianto, but while they share the coffee and suits I'm not going to forget, for example, that TIC-Ianto has a big family and Mways-Ianto has none. That's part of their stories: it's kind of like playing characters who happen to have the same name and job, but nothing else in common. *flaily* I don't know how to explain it, really.

3. Nope, sorry.

I am such a nerd when it comes to RPGs; it's downright embarrassing. I've been a part of so many over the years since I was a teenager, ranging from fandoms like Final Fantasy, Harry Potter RPGs, Lord of the Rings, Digimon and the like. And I tried my hand at some OC ones, too. But I tend to enjoy the fandom-related ones more.

I used to play message-board RPG back when Yahoo!Groups used to be eGroups and modded an HP-RPG there. It was a fantastically active place for a good six or so years.

Then I found LJ and started RPing here. Embarrassingly, my RP history didn't start with Milliways either, though it is actually my first pan-fandom RPG ever. I used to run [livejournal.com profile] disney__rpg with another member, which is the closest I came to playing pan-fandom (just Disney fandom) but it sadly died.

These days I play here, [livejournal.com profile] this_program, and recently: [livejournal.com profile] mixed_muses. I'm having so much fun playing Ruby there, I'm thinking of apping her into the bar. But we'll see.

I have to say, Milliways is probably the most fantastic RPG I've been a part of and really defines what a community is. I'm always surprised by its' level of consistent activity - and the intensity of it too. Most of the RPGs I've been in have died within a few months. Replies span over weeks instead of minutes, things like that. Plus - everything is always so well-written. I've had my share of dealing with Mary Sues elsewhere.

As for game-histories, none of that has ever bothered me. But for the record, I tend to play different pups everywhere just because I simply want to play that many characters. I keep filling up character limits. Heh.

As for #3: Nope. I've never even heard of it.

1. Oh yes. I was in a graphics enhanced MUCK in middle school. Original characters. Then, I joined an online Star Wars club called The Bounty Hunter's Guild, also original characters. I still have a soft spot for that one. Next, it was mostly lots of tabletop D&D.

My big ones are Milliways and [livejournal.com profile] handfulof_dust. The Wasteland is also an OC game. It's small, but fun. We're planning to start up again soon, so obvs you should look at it and join. I don't really mod, but I try and make the comm pretty and keep everything organized.

This is the only RPGing I'm involved in right now. Aside from table top, I have only been involved in play-by-email games for White Wolf's Changeling and Hunter but I stopped those a long time ago.

1. Mostly, Milliways is my main and only game. (My first game, too; my RP experience before then was solely in one-shot threads on the forum that was my previous haunt, and the setup there was somewhat different. Not LJ-based, no new accounts, all OCs who were mostly expected to be in-jokily based on oneself.) I have made minor forays into others, though. I briefly played younger versions of River and Alain in [livejournal.com profile] in_the_wood, and in theory I play an OC in the Heroesverse OC game [livejournal.com profile] tenth_wonders. Both of these games ended up being very small and slow, which is why I was willing to dabble in them without worrying about the time commitment, but all the same I know I didn't help that along much. I'm mostly a one-game kinda girl.

2. I used to swear that I'd never play other versions of my characters in other games, for just that reason. I thought I'd end up borrowing too much from my Milliways character arcs, and go OOC for the version I was supposed to be playing.

The reason it worked for [livejournal.com profile] in_the_wood is that they were both from very, very different -- and earlier -- points of canon than I brought my Milliways characters in from, enough so that they were almost different people. And I used different journals for them, too. Alain was thirteen, several months pre-Mejis, instead of the twenty-four-year-old post-death Alain I played here; River was likewise thirteen, and just beginning to look into that intriguing-looking government school. My plan for her was to play my way through Academy stuff, and I am still wistful that that one didn't work out.

3. Nope. Sorry!

And in the OC RPG the Wasteland, which as Jo said is starting up again WHEE. I <3 Anna. *pats her*

2. I've tried doubling a pup once, or rather bringing a pup that didn't work in Milliways into another game. That didn't work, either. I'm not good at multi-versioning my pups. *sigh*

3. I have read that book! It is . . . very very much a DAW book, if that makes sense? It's very sketchy and trope fantasy, but it's kind of fun. All MZR's cover art is bizarre. I don't get it.
